Maybe I need to try Miele dishwasher tabs??

I am on my 4th Miele dishwasher, and each one has been amazing! I just got a Miele La Perla II (G 2832 SCi) about 2 weeks ago. I set the water hardness level to our water hardness (we are at 7g/gallon). I am using Miele Salt and Miele Rinse Aid.

For the FIRST time ever using a Miele, the stainless interior is not spot free and super shiny. Glasses do not seem as clear, dishes are not as shiny....AND sometimes there is dried on food left. This has NEVER happened before.

I started adding Lemi Shine to ever load, and that has helped A LOT with leaving the stainless interior shiny, the glasses look clearer and dishes do look a lot shinier!

But...several items keep ending up with dried on food. I have NEVER had this happen. I have used, and am still using Cascade Complete/Advanced Power. My last few boxes have been Phosphate free. So I have used the Phosphate free in my old La Perla I and now in my current La Perla II. I have wanted this new La Perla II for some time now...but I feel a little bummed that the La Perla I seemed to clean better.

Any advice? Thanks a lot!!!

The new phosphate-free Cascade Complete has gotten bad reviews for cleaning. I suggest you try something else. I don't know anything about Miele tabs but I just tried Finish/Quantum in my KA and they work fine.

Try plain white vinegar in place of your rinse agent. It's way cheaper and IMHO even more effective.

I use the Miele tabs and the rinse aid as well, we got 3 boxes of tabs when we got our dishwasher with our kitchen remodel a little over a year ago. I think we just finished our 2nd box and still not done with the bottle of rinse aid yet. I started with full tabs at first, but then started cutting them , I just use kitchen shears (scissors) and do it over the sink. There is maybe a small amount of dust, but not that much from what I can see when I cut them. Then I put half in the washer and the other half back in the box until next time, nothing really in the bottom of the box ever either. We just used our first tab from Trader Joe's this week as well, it seemed to do well, but just trying these now as my wife bought them as a test. I would probably stick with the Miele stuff personally, but since the DW bought these I will try them and see. I have never had to dry any dishes from our dishwasher, other than the occasional lid or coffer cup that has a concave bottom that collects water. Everything else always comes out dry. We do have the dimensions plus and it does pop the door open for drying so I am sure that helps. Have never once missed the heated dry option. Phil

A few days ago I purchased a 10-pack of the Finish Quantum just to try them out, as I still have about a half bag of the Method. The first thing I did with the Quantum was to try it in my Miele Diamante empty, just to see if it created a lot of suds (like the newer Miele Tabs do) or if there is a chemical smell. After I heard the detergent door open, I waited about 5 minutes and opened the unit. There was a small amount of suds, but not nearly as much as the Miele Tabs, but still more suds than using the Method half-tab. Here's a pic of the Quantum after 5 minutes: Closed it back up, waited about 20 minutes later, opened it and the suds were gone. There was a very small smell, but not nearly as strong as the Cascade Compete. Later that night when the unit was full, I tried the Quantum with it and I turned off the automatic liquid rinse aid dispenser. Five minutes after the detergent door opened, I checked it and there was some suds, but a few minutes later they were gone. The next morning I checked it, and everything was clean, but a couple plastic cups still had a bit of moisture on the inside, and all tupperware item were wet. The next night I used the Quantum again, but turned back on the rinse aid dispenser to setting 1, which is what I had it set to with the Method and Miele tabs. The next morning I noticed that plastics were dry (like it use to be) and Tupperware was less wet, but still slightly damp. Overall, in using the Quantum tabs over the past few days, I've noticed that everything does appear a bit cleaner, as some cups/glasses/mugs that had some coffee/tea stains are now gone. Also, everything is more shinny. But this pack of 10 tabs was $3, so 30-ceents a tab, which I think is pricy, and they can't be cut in half since it's all powder inside. I'll have to check how much the 45-tab box was at the store or if it's cheaper to buy it on-line. The Method is 20 for $6, which is also 30-cents a tab, but since I cut those in-half, I get 40 loads at 15-cents each.

If you have residue on your glasses, double-check that the water hardness is properly entered in the settings. Also, make sure you have rinse aid. I am fortunate to live in a part of the country that has super soft water. So, none of the above applies to me. But if you have harder water, that's more of a concern. Alternatively, diligently use the water softener if your DW has one; and don't forget to cycle it regularly. As for using less than half a tab. I have to admit that once or twice I have run my Miele dishwasher without any detergent. I didn't even notice until I saw the tab still sitting on the counter top. Oops. Turns out, even without any detergent, my Miele does a pretty good job at washing. I wouldn't recommend running all loads without detergent, but I also would not hesitate to reduce the amount in order to find the perfect setting.

My area has naturally very soft water most of the year (under 4 grains/gallon) and it can climb up to about 7 or 8 during short periods of the year, when they need to get water from another source to supplement demand. So, anyway, my machine is going to be about 10 years old soon, but it was the top of the line back then. I don't have to tell the machine how hard the water is, in fact I can *ask* it how hard was the water last cycle, which is how I know the water hardness varies during the year. In my case, I have consistently used just about 1 kg (~2.2 pounds) of salt (or one box) per year. About once a year, depending on how much water the city got from which sources, the light comes on asking for more salt. You don't need to add salt, I think, with a cup or so still in the reservoir. The other difference is that my machine is set for "powder" whether or not I use tablets, because I *want* the machine to soften the water and also use the rinsing agent. If I set it for tablets, particularly for 3-in-1 (instead of 2-in-1), it tends to use a minimal amount of rinse agent, and I prefer the results I get when it's set to powder. Your model is much newer and may use a different programming, I dunno. In any case, I wouldn't worry unless you are not happy with the results. Good luck!

Basics: are you getting complete fill? Are you getting complete drain? Are you getting target temperature? Are the washer arms spinning as they should?

Leftover food is often tell-tale. All of the above are easy to check and, if found culpable, easy to fix.

Just so you know, the new Miele G5000 series is due out someone this year in the US, as they been overseas since last summer.
The new LaPerla will have internal LED lighting.

I've been using a Diamante since last summer. First with the Miele tabs they had at that time, then a few month later got the newer Miele tabs that are phosphate free. I haven't had any problems with either one. I cut all the tabs in-half and only use one half per wash load. Everything comes out clean, no spots or film. I'm also using the Miele brand salt (water softener set to 4-6 grains) and Miele rinse aid (set to 1ml dose, as 3ml was the factory default).

Since you already have the sale and rinse aid, I'd suggest using the Miele tabs (try just a half of one) in your unit and run it with the Pots & Pans mode. Also, make sure the "Tab" option is turned OFF in your LaPerla settings!

I am trying the La Perla tabs this week!

@ Fauguy...May I ask, why you keep telling me over and over about how the La Perla III (G5000) with LED lighting is coming to the US? Are you gloating that I just spent over $2000 on the La Perla II & now a new and "better" model is coming out??? :(

Its not necessarily directed to you, but I think people should know ahead of time before a new product comes out. That way they can decided if the want to buy the current one or wait for the new one. Someone else could read this and say "I didn't know there was a G5000 series coming to the US this year, maybe I'll wait for that one".
There will be a new G5000 Diamante and Optima too, so mine will then be year-older model. But as long as you are happy with it (like I am) there's no need to have buyer's remorse.

I've read enough of your posts to know that you are a huge fan of Miele appliances and would never knock one if there weren't a real problem. Your La Perla II is brand new and is not working correctly so my advice would be to call Miele immediately, let them know how great a consumer of their products you are, and let them get a tech to you ASAP for all the troubleshooting. By the way, what happened to your La Perla I, may I ask?

yes, I am a huge Miele fan. I honestly, do not even own a non Miele appliance. I have been Miele only, for almost 20 years.

I sold my La Perla I on Craigslist...got a lot for it. It was the BEST machine. I was so excited that the La Perla II opened automatically at the cycle end, so I thought I would treat myself and upgrade. While the new machine is beautiful and I do really like the end of cycle auto open...I am a little disappointed with the performance.

Also the door makes a pop/creak/crucnh sound at the bottom of the door, right side. Almost sounds like metal on metal or hard plastic on metal. Odd. Does not sound critical, but for the price...I do not like the sound.

I think I am going to have to call Miele. I hope I do not have to use the 90 day return guarantee. What would I get? I do not think Bosch, Asko or KitchenAid are on the same level as Miele. Maybe I should try and find a new La Perla I?? :)

I also added a tad more Lemi Shine to my Powder detergent. Glasses and utensils were left as shiny and silky as in the La Perla I.

I will say that this new La Perla II is SO VERY QUIET. I can barely hear it running.

Using the Pots and Pans cycle with the Soak option gave GREAT results tonight! I think the Normal Cycle is not very good in the La Perla II.

I also added a tad more Lemi Shine to my Powder detergent. Glasses and utensils were left as shiny and silky as in the La Perla I.

I will say that this new La Perla II is SO VERY QUIET. I can barely hear it running.

Maybe I need to try Miele dishwasher tabs??
