Help identifying a marble/alabaster table with brass/marble legs?

My sister in law gave me an antique table. All she said was it has been in the family for over 50 years. She just wanted to get rid of it. Well, I am rather partial to antiques, but even more so if I know more about them.

This one has a marble I have never seen before, with gold specks in it. It may well be alabaster, I am not sure. It has what looks like pock marks on the bottom of the slat.

The legs are brass and and matching marble/alabaster. It is rather short, like a coffee table but I am not sure when those came out. Any help would be really nice. I just want to know what era it was made, or what kind of legs it is, or what kind of marble/alabaster it is. Anything would be helpful to me.

Looking at the bottom of the pedestals -- In the photos, it looks like painted metal. Is it?
The slab looks 'cast' to me. Again, it could just be the photos, but I'm wondering if it isn't some type of man-made 'cast-marble' product (similar to the stuff used on vanity tops) from the 1960's or 1970's? You said 'pock-marked' on the bottom -- could those be bubbles from something that was poured?

Anyway - that's my guess.

I doubt it's an antique. Fifty years ago was 1959, and I think this looks 1960s/70s. It could be stone or it could be some sort of cast resin. Is it cold to the touch?

Are you able to see the underside of the stone? Check to see if it says 'Italian Marble.' If you want to put in on Craigslist, I'd suggest searching for similar tables, to see what price your market will support. Use the 'has image/grid view' for easier searching. Don't necessarily HAVE to have marble, but I really really like that aspect. I have found some at Room and Board and CB2 that I like, but they are SO short, only coming about 15 or 16 inches off the ground. I would prefer something closer to 20 as I use my coffee table as my laptop "desk" all the time. I found one that looks almost exactly like the one from the show except it is all wood made by Ole Wanscher, an MCM designer I had never heard of: I guess maybe I should concentrate more on finding something new that is reminiscent as it would be difficult to find exactly what I'm looking for in vintage. Any sources for round coffee tables with clean lines? I'd like something around 36-40" in diameter about 20" tall.

So I know this response may be a bit late but yes. I agree with previous comments that you possess nice East Lake Victorian tables. I wish you had taken pics of the tops as the condition of the marble along with the corner cut details can significantly add to the value. It is also important that the marble be as near white without stains as possible. Having said that I suspect value to be in the $200 each range. They are not especially rare but look in good condition. Too bad they are not identical as that would add to the value. Good luck, Kippy

I"m noticing in pictures that most walls that are painted a deep color have the trim painted to match. If I painted the room, including the trim deep plum, what do I do about the door. The trim in the rest of the flat is white. Would a dark colored door with white trim look strange in the hall? Same question if I paper. As noted, the trim should be painted too if the paper is dark. Which leads me to another question. Originally I thought because the room is so bright, it can handle deep colors but now I'm wondering if these dark colors would look better in a darker room...to create that cozy, moody look that I see in so many photos. I'm sorry if I'm overthinking this but this is an expensive project and I want to get it right. Thanks for all of your help so far.

There are no "antique" coffee tables.
Coffee tables didn't become popular until the early 50's and even then formal living rooms didn't have coffee tables. There were tea tables which were somewhat taller than coffee tables and side tables but not coffee tables.
I think you likely have a resin or created stone table from the 70's. It sort of has that "Saturday Night Fever" look to it! LOL
