Best Nailpolish for natural nails?

I've used OPI for years and OPI is what the nail salons in my area use. I love the colors but the wear time is very short - about 3 days before it rubs off my nail tips. I thought I was hard on nail polish but after I did a little research tonight I learned that lots of people feel that OPI does not last long on natural nails. Any polish will last and last on acrylic nails, but what can I apply to my natural nails that will last a week?

By the way, I always apply a base coat, 2 coats of polish and a top coat.

I actually have pretty good luck with OPI lasting a week (7 days or more) on my natural nails - do you have your hands in water or cleaners a lot? Just curious...

I also like Avon polishes - not the cheap stuff in the round plastic bottles (that doesn't last long), but the polish in the square glass bottles with blue caps. "Sinful" brand polishes are probably my favorites. Loreal polishes are pretty good too, but stay away from China Glaze...those barely last 5 days on my nails.

A good topcoat is probably the most important part of getting polish to last - I use Loreal 2 in 1 base/top coat or Avon's 2 in 1...both seem to work much better than OPI's top coat for me.

I like Sally Hanson.....and if I re apply the top coat ( I like the visibly stronger) every couple of days...I can get a good 10 days out of a manicure.....and by then it's beginning to grow out...UGH!

I've used surgical gloves under gray worker's gloves (when really into dirt) and nitrile covered gloves where I need to feel more of what I'm doing with plants. Talk about hands soaked wet after 2 minutes and they rip within 2 hours. Have to sprinkle in baby powder to get them back on after I take them off for a break. I tried wet soap under nails after some mechanics and backstage theater workers said they do it as preventative measure to lessen after work scrubbing. Yes, I too tried it dry first and felt like a dolt after it all kept flaking off. Works until first time you wash hands/arms. I keep big old tupperware container of bleach solution on patio to wash off tools, sanitize pots and wash hands/arms. There's poison ivy/sumac everywhere and I wash off my arms if I think I've stuck my arm into it when working too fast to notice it. The point where my nails meet the skin underneath them is all cut and sore after all the attempts to get dirt out from under nails constantly all the time I'm outside. Doesn't seem to be alternative to filling sink with hot water, holding back skin under nails and going at dirt with nail brush. No manicures here...can't stand feel of having my nails covered with anything although my girly side would love to have the "french manicure" look. Likewise, can't stand dirt under my nails but it's there every day. Even when not actually working in dirt I can't pass a weed without pulling it and those in close proximity. Ken is right about one thing where I'm concerned. If I'm on the middle of something I'll end up using my hands as "tools" instead of trying to get up off my knees and walk around to the garage for the tenth time. I'm the first to admit I get into one thing and then hop to another task that shows up under my nose and don't have proper tools with me. Never in my life did I think I'd turn into Mrs. Greenjeans in appearance while working out there in 2 short years of gardening...LOL.

Well Cat, I think she has the same chalenge as we do. (one of mine is spelling) :) Anyway, she sent me some MG's that ANYONE would drool over, and they are a few different ones together. I'm running around trying to put nailpolish on the really special ones,( as if they aren't ALL special), and I use a really bright orange nailpolish. In each bunch I use the polish on just one, to let me know that it's extra special, and then I just remember what the other is. Yeah, it's kind of confusing still, but it helps. I find that the labels don't work so well, they get blown away, or the rain destroys them, or something else. My goodness, I've never seen so many breathtaking MG's !!! I have one growing behind my garage,( it's spooky back there) thats a light pink,HUGE,ruffeled, and has white frosting on the petals. My O My,I have't to isolate it from the others, it will leave you breathless!!! I think I'm going to have a MG "MIX" extravaganza, and mix a lot of them together. Then folks can just plant a couple together, and then isolate them. Whatdaya think? I have some seperated like Blue silk, but I'm going to get just a few seeds from taht one I think, cos it bloomed so late, but it is just spectacular! Then I have one,( I guess it's Rose Silk), that is HUGE, looks kind of like Chocolate, but is ruffeled with a white trim all around. Of course it has to be isolated, which I'm doing. My biggest worry is trying to figure WHICH ones to plant next year. I mean, How do you decide? What's YOUR stratagy? And yeah, where IS Emma? I sent her an email, but she must be busy. She DOES have around 200 different MG"S or mor, I think, and that would keep ANYONE busy!!! :) Arum

Thanks, everyone, for your suggestions. Here are the results of our foray into cleaning nailpolish from leather: Update: The polish has successfully been removed. The winning cleaner was non-acetone nail polish remover. We tried pealing it off (some was willing to come, but it started to pull the leather finish off), then tried the eraser - No effect, though the surrounding leather looks better!, the goo gone - which didn't do much of anything, and then the non-acetone remover, which didn't show any signs of harming the leather finish but removed the polish just fine.. We still used q-tips, though.

LOL ... the post that refuses to die. :-) When I took my glue on nails off after about seven years. My nails were so messed up I thought they would never look normal. Really, really wish I had taken photos though because the difference after using the Nail Magic Botanical Nail Strengthener with Horsetail, is amazing. The trick to getting your nails back in shape ... at least my approach is ... when I wash my hair I really use my nails to shampoo. As soon as I get out of the shower I clean under my nails real good with one side of a pair of tweezers because they are always nearby. No matter how short your nails are, this visually makes them look longer. After they dry, I apply a thin coat of Nail Magic Botanical Nail Strengthener with Horsetail and let it dry, followed by one more thin coat. The most important thing at this point is to coat the nail, the tip and under the tip no matter how short your nails are. This keeps the nail from getting ragged and snagging stuff. As soon as that happens, I start peeling my nails and everything is lost. I clean my nails the same way every morning and by day three, they already look longer. I add another thin coat of polish every 3-4 days concentrating on the tips each time. Hope this helps someone. Jodi-

I recently bought "Nail Savvy" brand polish at Sally's Beauty Supply. I never had a polish last so long on my nails....8 days until I got my first chip (2 polish coats with no base or top coat). 3 weeks on my toenails! Usually I chip within a day of applying. There was no significant wear on the tips, either.
BTW, the color was a gorgeous vibrant hot pink frost....perfect for summer.

I'm a crafter, a gardener, and am redoing the house we jsut bought...so the amount of abuse my nails take is unnatural...and they're razor-fine,the kind you can bend in half.

but the only reason I have any nails at all is the coat of clear sealer I put on ever other day. even when I was 'just' typing for a living, if I wanted nails, this was the way that worked for me.

Use a nail bonder available at Sally's under your polish. This will make almost any of your polishes last a lot longer without wearing off at the tips so fast. Then use a good sealer when done. It's the oil in your natural nails tht causes the quick wearing down.

I agree with the Sally Hansen it has to be my fave as well. If you follow up with the same line top coat, you'll find your nails will grow out faster than the polish will wear off.
