Garbage disposer recommendations please
Comments (11)I own quite a few rental properties. I learned years ago that it's much cheaper in the long run to put in the best garbage disposers I can find. By that, I mean a 1 HP motor, with all stainless steel grind components and grind chamber. Currently, my choice is the Insinkerator Excel. I've had very good luck with Insinkerator over the years. Not only is this disposer quieter, but it has a larger capacity, will grind up almost anything (bones, artichokes, corn husks - tenants will try anything!), and grinds stuff into smaller particles that flow through drain lines more readily. The stainless components won't corrode and stay sharper, much longer than ordinary steel grind chambers and components. The bigger motor is also more durable. Since replacing smaller, cheaper disposers with top-of-the-line models, I almost never have to call out the Roto-Rooter or deal with stopped up kitchen drain lines, something that used to be a regular occurance. The extra cost up front for the best disposer saves me way more in time and money in the long run. Fewer plumbing problems, not to mention, the disposers themselves last longer....See MoreTo garbage disposal or not garbage disposal
Comments (26)My husband and I were just discussing this the other day, if we had it to do over again, we wouldn't. I don't really cook the kind of meals that need a lot of "disposing" and my garbage is picked up twice a week. I don't think it is worth the sometimes smelly unpleasantness. It probably is more likely to smell if you hardly ever use it, as in our case. I only got it because I replaced the one that went on the fritz after 16 years. I should have just ditched it then and could have gotten a different kind of sink but that's a whole other story. I also don't like how much room it takes up under the sink....See MoreBest garbage disposal for a prep sink?
Comments (4)The prep sink is likely to be where most of the grinding will be needed. Agree that you need a good one. My Insinkerator, installed 28 years ago and used almost daily, is still operating, albeit noisier than new models. Any of their Evolution series would be good and I'd go for the best model that fits your space and budget....See Moresink drain hangs over pipes and garbage disposal. what can we do?
Comments (3)I've done this job; it ain't all that. If you're really fussy, I'd smack the cabinet front off and the break up the cabinet bottom. Run the pipe as necessary under the cabinet, no concrete breaking required. Stub the new location, cut a new bottom, slide it into the dadoes in the cabinet sides, and reinstall the cabinet front. Plumb from the new stub....See More- 15 years agolast modified: 9 years ago
