If a labelmaker is not available, place the aluminum strip on a surface with some give to it, like hard foam rubber or linoleum or a few sheets of newspaper and mark the strip with a ball point pen, pressing hard enough to make a good, permanent mark.

I've never tried goo gone but twice now I've put what I thot was red colored glass in the dishwasher but it wasn't colored glass but some sort of colored coating over white/green glass. This coating turns cloudy in the DW and I've had to scrape it off. On this last one DH used paint remover which worked fairly well except for the crevasses. I really need to look closely at cheap YS colored glass before I buy it.

CJC45,do you leave the collars in place full time & if so do you find any setback in growth with cabbage family crops or anything else that is shallow rooted.That was my reason for making the collars removable,once the stems are tough enough to not be attacked.I like the idea of using yogurt tubs,but being a Brit,I drink way more rum & coke & don't eat too much yogurt :)

I love the Ball Collapsible Funnel (found at the link below). I have 4 other canning funnels (a hard square plastic model that fits both regular and wide-mouth jars and round ones), but the Collapsible model is the best one I've used. I especially like it because of its is oval opening, instead of the more common round or square, so it's easier to fill because it's wider. Each graduation of the funnel fits snugly into regular, wide-mouth and larger jars. Fill the jar to the bottom of the funnel and you will automatically have 1/2-inch of headroom.
