Need a haircut that suits my round face....

Would love to hear from someone with experience in designing a cut for a round face....My hair is naturallly curly, except for around the crown & bangs, where it's poker straight.Shoulder length, fine and thick. I'd like to keep the length, since I'm partial to wearing ponytails and chignons. I've read that the ideal cut for this face shape would have heighth on the top and stay close to the face on the sides...this sounds suspiciously like a mullet to me ! Right now I don't have any layers to speak of. Any suggestions ?

I've been using HairStyler.com for a really long time. It's ~$14 per 6 months. You can upload a picture of yourself and try on thousands of hairstyles, and even change the color. Each style says if it's good for fine, medium or coarse hair, and for thin, medium or thick density (I'm a wavy fine thin with long face girl myself). It will also mention good face shapes for each cut. You can also ask for recommendations. I really do print out the pics and take them to my hairdresser. She thinks it's hilarious, but I've never been surprised about how a cut looks on me.

Nina, while you were noticing the pie plate, I was noticing the pie crust leaves in a spray on top of the pie, and thinking I could steal that design for Thanksgiving! A pie kit, now that's a useful item, and I have a couple of those dumpling/tart presses that I use to make little individual sandwiches from bread dough and whatever filling suits me, kind of a homemade hot pocket sandwich. My girls love them and I'm sure AM's kids will too. Cookbooks are always good, of course, that's a given and I like the marked favorite recipes. Enjoy everything, AM, and I hope things have slowed down a bit for you. Have a piece of pie and just relax! Annie

Everyone wants what they don't have. I'm so jealous of your straight smooth hair, and you want waves? lol It seems we have the same hair texture , the difference being mine is 1/2 grey now. I had straight hair for much of my life, but it just seems to be curlier every year. Probably it's the grey. If I washed mine and let it air dry, I would look like Shirley Temple, a look I don't want. How did your stylist tell you to style your hair after washing? I blow mine good upside down, use a straightener iron and for a few minutes put in jumbo rollers to try to get a smooth do. How was yours done? I really really like your back. I'm good with cutting the front, but my daughter cuts my back.

Good luck finding a hairdresser that will/can cut it like you want it! Whatever you do walk,or better still, run right on by Wal-Mart,Supercuts,etc! LOL I have had at least 5 hair cuts since we have been in NM,showed them pictures, verbally explained in detail to them how I wanted it,practically showed a couple how to hold the scissors.Even shampooed and blow dried in the style I wear before I went and told them I wanted a shorter version of THIS! Haven't found one person that can cut it like I want it and have had some really BAAAD haircuts.I even stopped a lady in the parking lot at Wal-mart the other day and asked her who cut her hair because it looked like the way I like mine.LOL The last 2 times I cut it myself.Figured I could chop it up as bad as anyone else and it was free!LOL Stacy-I have seen pictures of you with short hair and long hair and I love it short! Makes you look young, not that you are old or look old but there's just something about it short that is very becomming.I'm with you when it comes to long hair and heat/humidity.The shorter the better for me.Good luck and post a picture when you're done.

Hi again Mysteryegg -- have you run screaming from your own thread yet? Just a quick question so we can incorporate our various views into helping you find a LR-to-hall color that makes you happy...even though if it's one color it will probably look a little different room to room! can you share some photos/art/clothing that you're drawn to? could be rooms, landscapes, street scenes? can you tell us a bit about why you like what you're sharing? Sometimes that helps provide a great starting point when combined with a room's lighting, geographic location, "permanent" elements like floors or tile etc. Because if you're someone who's drawn to soft misty shades, or bold jewel tones, or earthy forest hues and your room's natural + artificial lighting isn't doing your favs justice...that's where compromise happens. You'll either need to get to a color that works well *enough* for your personality AND place or choose a side.* *see April, I did read your posts ;) Temperament: it may explain that Scandi love of white walls even when the snow's up to their chins.

This is probably not what you're waiting to hear, but it's possible to just make the decision not to camouflage, which is what designing a cut for a particular face shape really is. Why not just choose a style that really appeals to you without worrying about whether it goes with a round face?

The theory behind choosing a hairstyle for a particular face shape hinges very much on the idea that other-than-oval face shapes fall short of the ideal. Supposedly, a certain style will make a face appear less like what it really is and more like the ideal. In other words, there's something inherently wrong with round (or square). I think that's a fairly outdated way of thinking about it and I'm surprised that it still gets offered up as real advice.

I say this because I have an exceptionally round face (the very definition of), and after months of trying to find a short style that met the descriptions in magazines for what a round face "needs", I finally admitted that my personal style is NOT a round face style, and that I'd never find a style I liked if I stuck to what the experts recommended. Instead, I bought a magazine for short haircuts and went through circling all the styles that especially appealed to me, reviewing them about once a week and narrowing the options as I went, until I had only one left. I took that photo to a stylist and I now have hair that I'm absolutely thrilled with.

Yeah, my face is obviously round, there's no disguising it with this cut; but, that's my face. Even if you got a clever layered style that's ideal for "cutting in" the sides of your face, the first strong breeze would erase that effect. I say choose something you like just because you like it, go on out into the world proudly round-faced, and give those oval-shaped ladies something to envy.

Um, is this a soapbox I'm standing on? Allow me to step down now and get out of the way. :-)
