WOW!!! Does he realize how many servings of fruit he's consuming? 3/4 c. (6 oz.) = one serving Not to mention all that sugar - even natural sugar in fruit juice is still SUGAR! High fructose corn syrup is dangerous stuff - right up there with trans fatty acids. How many calories does that add up to? Nearly half his calorie needs for the day I bet. Has he tried tonic water or sparkling water with just a small amount of juice in it? Even sparkling water with lemon or lime juice. You can also add a small amount of fruit juice with milk (I also use homemade kefir for this drink) and with some grape juice and milk make a Grape Cow, or with orange juice and get an Orange Cow. At least you'll also be getting a dairy serving - but too much of ANYTHING is bad when it comes to food and drink. Check out the My Pyramid site (link below). Perhaps the reason he makes them like that is because they live so close to Canada: on Lake St.Clair between Detroit & Port Huron . . . which, of course, is just over the borders from Windsor and Sarnia, Ontario, respectively. He may have originally had one at a restaurant over there. Do you add dill pickle juice and a pickle spear to yours, too, or is that just my BIL's idea? We love it. I have a very similar situation. My parents separated when I was 8 and divorced when I was 10. I always had weight problems and they got worse after they separated. I went from a house with 18 acres to an apartment, and the stress did not help. Part of this was becuase my mom wouldn't say no to what I wanted. If I wanted to come home from school and eat a huge snack before dinner, I could, or if I wanted to eat a whole package of cookies, she didn't say no. She is an awesome cook so I would go back for helping after helping. Now I'm 22 I have still battled back and forth, up down, up, down. I have to reverse my eating habits for the past 20years. When I was a senior in high school my mom's friend got me to join weight watchers. Best thing I ever did. I started to eat less, and watch what I ate. But I had to do it by myself. She is younger and will have your help. It will be much easier. And you are now seeing many younger kids going with their mothers or fathers. They have special programs for kids to make sure they are still getting the nutrition they need, but it teaches portion control and how to eat healthier. But definitely cut out all junk food. Portion control is very big, and exercise. I played basketball in high school and loved it. If she doesn't like sports, how about just taking some walks? I have a history of diabetes in my family as well, I can relate very well to her situation and it is not easy! Still to this day it is a battle. Hope some of this helps at all.

I'm not a drinker (mostly). Never was till we started cruising in 2006 and I would only have a couple of fruity drinks on a 7 day cruise. Then occasionally I'd have a fruity drink when we'd go out to eat. Most of the time I'd asked for a non-alcoholic version. Well, a month ago while eating at Outback, I'm looking over the menu and the waitress starts with her "would you like to start out with a drink...." and I was about to say no thank you, when I hear the words horchata, coconut, pineapple, rum (my adult beverage of choice) all in the same sentence. I couldn't say YES fast enough! <lol> OMGoodess! It's a Rum-Chata Colada and it's amazing! To make a virgin one you'd buy a carton of Horchata (Mexican drink that consists of strained rice milk, sugar, vanilla and cinnamon). Add cream of coconut and pineapple to taste. Or you can skip the coconut all thereto if you're not a coconut fan.
