Keeping rabbit's water from freezing
Comments (3)All I did when it got below freezing was to have 3 sets of water bottles for each cage. When I went out, I'd take fresh bottles with tepid water, and switch out the bottles. Take the frozen ones inside to thaw. How cold it got determined how many times I'd have to switch the bottles. If it wasn't much below freezing, just switch once in the morning because the bottles wouldn't freeze during the day (my rabbits had shelter) If it got down to 50 below, every couple of hours. It wouldn't take the bottles long to freeze, but if the rabbits got all they wanted to drink at least every other hour, they were getting enough. You an also put heat lamps near the hutch and if they are close to the water bottles, the water won't freeze....See MoreWhich is better for Plants; Bottled Water Or Tap Water
Comments (9)It really depends on a lot of factors. First you have to define bottled water and tap water. There are a lot of different sources of the generic term bottled water. Some bottled waters are actually just tap water that a city has bottled, while others are spring water, or water that has been purified in some manner. Others may have been created from a combination of sources, such as tap water that's been purified. The tap water depends on if you're in a city or on a well, how hard or soft the water is in the area, how old the pipes are and what material they're composed of, and if the city adds chlorine or other chemicals to the water. If you want to do the project correctly you'll have to address these factors. It may be better to narrow the scope to something simpler like is spring water from X spring better than tap water from Y city....See MoreTap water, bottled water, rain water
Comments (20)It is so nice and useful to read all the information and experiences of our forum members here. I never thought seriously about the water I use for germination, normally I used tap water. Once I used distilled water for spray the plants because the tap water spray make the leaves so ugly. When the water dried all the leaves have whitish residues from the water probably the lime/chalk. When the tap water is dried always chalk/lime built up on the surface. So we have vinegar plus solution for regular cleaning. One of my friends apartment's tap water is pretty bad when he boils it the water lost its color, it looks like water with milk. I hate this chalky water. However, I do not know this hard water is good for the plant. Caelian...See Morefreezing water in plastic bottle; ... what else...?
Comments (14)vala55: I have become 'addicted' I guess to having the water put in the bottle about 3/4 full & have it frozen. When I take it out, I add cold tap water to fill it to the top & this way I have real cold ice water for a much longer time. Someone mentioned a Rubbermaid bottle which would be better to freeze but so far I have been unable to find one of these. I have not read any manufacture's advice on any of the plastic water bottles. The bottles bought in large quantities bundled together I have noticed have plastic is not as rigid as the same brand when you buy the bottles individually for some reason... those bottles are more rigid! Seems Snopes & Johns Hopkins still don't condemn freezing these plastic bottles altogether.... I also drink cold water out of the garden hose when I am outdoors for hours doing yard work ...!...See Morecoverlet
