Cross-body bags

I see that cross-body bags are pretty popular right now. I have never had one, but am tired of carrying a big heavy purse over my shoulder. I'd like to try a smallish cross-body bag, but I am almost 60 years old. Do you think this is too youthful a look for me? Do you think it would be better in a neutral shade, or should I get a pretty color for summer? I was thinking coral, or apricot. One of the worst things about getting older is trying to dress appropriately for your age without looking matronly. If it makes a difference, I am 5'4", with a smallish frame, size 8/10.

I absolutely think you should try one, and in any fun color you want! I've always preferred wearing my bags across my body. Not only does it feel like a lighter load, but it leaves both hands free to shop. It's not going to slip off my shoulder and nobody can snatch it away. When I buy a purse with a nice long strap, I do make sure the bag is a little flat and not a bulky one. There are so many pretty Spring colors out there now. Have fun! And get some ballet flats to match!

Sounds like a good idea Sameboat. It's funny, I never thought I'd be the type to get "set in my ways". Used to be the one who was always changing hairstyles, makeup, fashion. Now that I'm older, I am more hesitant. But I think I'll take your advice, and get some new shoes to match.

OSH body bags are not bags

I live in the East Bay and there are three OSH stores that I shop at; two near where I live and one where I work. The closest location to me is in Moraga and was opened the most recently. I would consider it a poor location, but I guess they did their market research to locate there. independently. OSH stores are a lot smaller than Loews or Loews supposedly bought them and say they will be run Home Depot. There customer service Is better.

A follow-up FWIW, specifically in re Tradesy. My gently used bags arrived (two different sellers). The aqua one arrived and is perfect, though smaller than I thought (my fault entirely, I didn't read it closely). The brown one arrived smelling quite musty/mildewy. It occurred to me that must be a very common problem with vintage luxury handbags ... I don't think LV has made this bag for several years. What was annoying was that the seller did not disclose any odor in the description (other sellers do). I am unusually sensitive to smells, but others agreed with me. Because the bag did not meet the description, Tradesy sent me a return mailing label and was willing to give me a full refund. However, the bag was much less than the 2 or three others available elsewhere, and I believe it can be cleaned. I renegotiated the price even furthere (a bit tricky since Tradesy does not facilitate this) and kept the bag. I will take it to a professional to clean. I've already greatly ameliorate the problem with vinegar . I'm happy but I do think the seller acted in bad faith; they had a dozen bags for sale and I doubt they were unaware about the problem. Of course now Tradesy shows up on every page I bring up and I have a "want" list with them that is pages long ..... someone created a monster.

Suitcase recommendations?

On a flight home from Europe, the American guy in line ahead of me had to check his carryon (it looked to be the usual size, not too large, he wasn't one of those people trying to bring his whole life on board with him). He said but I always carry it on. Swiss Air said that may be on US carriers but many European planes have slightly smaller overhead bins so you have to gate check it. I believe the gate agent about the slightly smaller bins because on the flight there, my new 21" spinner wheel carry on didn't fit wheels first in the overhead bin, it was a smidgen too long. Luckily, my seatmate didn't have anything to put up there so I turned the bag and shut the door. On the way home, I checked it so I don't know what might have happened if it didn't fit and I couldn't turn it. But after hearing the Swiss Air gate agent, I worry the bag may be a problem on future flights. I've used EasyJet four times, and three times they were very strict about allowing one, and they mean one item, carried on. The fourth time they didn't comment to my sister about on her purse and a bag (luckily the purse could have been placed in the bag if necessary). My recommendation for luggage is get the lightest one you can and know that they don't last forever so don't pay too much.

thanks, thanks a lot :) I am now going to look on ebay. I have found my perfect purse, wallet and laptop/work bag (backpack). They are coach. I carried them for about 10 years in brown (mahogany). since I used them daily they were kind of beat up by then and I decided I wanted to start using black. I found the exact bags, all three, in black, gently used, on ebay. it took some searching but I love them still. I think I need a back up though and as time goes on I am sure it will be harder to find. I need to set up my searches on ebay again!

Triplemom83, I don't think it's too youthful of a look for a nearly-60-year-old at all. I like the cross-body bags because they seem to balance the weight of the bag more evenly than a heavy purse. And coral or apricot sounds lovely! The style and color are certainly not age-limited.

I hope it isn't too young for you because I am 63 and I just bought two cute cross body bags at Target. AND I am tall and fat. Sooooo may not look right on me for sure!! I too have been carrying large heavy shoulder bags. Looking to lighten up.
