Looking for recommendations on a mid-range slide-in gas range. I am leaning towards the GE Cafe due to look, price and decent ratings. I like the Kitchenaid KDRS407VSS more as it gets a better Consumer Report rating but the price tage is high. I am not overly excited about either so I would greatly appreciate any input. Silde-in gas ranges don't seem to get all around rave reviews but I would like to find a slide-in stainless model that works as well as can be expected for the price point. Thanks.

ccoombs1 and megma, Thanks for pointing out the Elite 6400 series. I looked up the specs last night and it seems to be a good fit for everything I'm looking for and I saw it online for about $200 less than the Kobe CH-91. However, I noticed that at highest CFM it's a whopping 13.5 sones (compared to the Kobe's high of 4.5 sones and that one goes up to 720 CFM). Do you find this to be a big issue? I know megma, you said you usually are able to keep it on the low, but I'm assuming every now and then you'd need to crank it up to high...just wondering exactly how loud that is? It seems that most reviews for the Broans the one main complaint is fan noise. festusbodine, thanks for the eBay tip. I have started to search the listings to see if any of the models I'm interested in come up. I don't know a whole lot about the Kitchenaid models, though.

Someone on another thread told me (politely) that I was crazy to try to find such a thing for around $600. (I don't know--haven't bought a stove in ... maybe forever. Think they always came with the house/condo.) It's twice the price but looks pretty good to me. I have no idea about convection cooking though--maybe it will make me a better baker.

For a commercial example of a touchpad controlled appliance, there are the Cooktek "Apogee" units used in restaurants as high-end as Grant Achatz's Alinea in Chicago and the Ducasse restaurants in Paris. For "knobs sold to the general public," recognized major brands with knob-controlled induction models include the GE Cafe models that I cited in my previous post, Electrolux/Frigidaire's "Gallery" slide-in induction range and some of the induction ranges the company makes for Sears to badge as Kenmores, LG's induction slide-in range, and Samsung's induction slide-in ranges. Boutique brand models with knob controls include Viking's induction range and some of its cooktops, Blue Star's induction stoves and cooktops, AGA, Bertazzoni, DCS/Fisher & Paykel, Verona and Ilve. Gagenau (a divsion of the Bosch BSH conglomerate), offers some models of cooktops with unique knob and glass controls. There are probably more models out there, but you get the idea.
