Fridge - Sub Zero, GE Mono or Jenn Air?
Comments (2)Antss, since, "You are in the know" or maybe you know somebody with "connections", You could find out if there really is still a difference between the Jenn-Air Fridges versus the rest of the Whirpool lineup? From reading, it still looks like Jenn-Air is using the "Variable Speed Compressor"---I don't think any of the other Whirpool Fridges use that? The reason I ask, is that at least in 2005-2006, Jenn-Air was the most highly rated Fridge for reliability by CR. That is when we purchased ours (Prior to the Whirlpool buyout) and it indeed has be trouble free, going on 4 years now. It is very quiet, easy to clean the Evaporator---its up on top and the wood panel lifts off there-- and hangs suspended by chains, so one can do the recommended evaporator cleaning, change the water filter, etc. Should it ever need repairs, everything is up their on top too--so no need to slide the fridge out to service it (If it ever needs it). Other things that I like are the way it is lit inside, both the fridge and freezer sections, and umlike LG, it has a circuit that will turn off the lites in case you didnt close the door or whatever----how do I know that???? Wife apparently had put something in fridge that kept the door from completely closing(or maybe I did), anyway, I hear this muted beeping--what the???, traced the beeping down to the fridge, opened the door and no lights--oh oh now what!!!!!---looked at the temps in it, said 40 for fridge and about 8 for freezer (It is almost always at 37 and 0). Then I see the pan handle that kept the door from completely closing, turn the pan around, Close the door, beeping goes away, open the door and lites back on. Come back few minutes later and temps at 37 and 0---so that's how I know about the saftey light circuit. Were I to buy a new fridge, I would want the interior lit with LED's but that's cause I am a "Techie" Anyway, looonnnggg windy way os saying We very happy with our 48" built in and panelled Jenn-air Fridge. Your idea about handles is a good one!!! --That is what we did, since most of our other appliances are Elux, we bought the handle from Elux for their Fridges and it matches the rest of the Elux in the Kitchen---the only "Rebel" is the Miele Dishwasher, but it is panelled (Partially--control panel shows wife wanted that) but we feel it matches pretty good. Good luck to the OP on pending decision!!! Gary...See MoreJenn-Air wall oven, any experience?
Comments (4)I have a new Jenn-Air 27" convection wall oven. I've only had it for a few weeks and during that time we've been busy doing a few things to refresh the look of the kitchen, including being without counters while waiting for granite installation. So I haven't really put the oven to the test, but I have continued to use it for roasting and baking, with and without convection. What I don't like: (1) I haven't figured out an easy way to get the rolling rack in and out of the oven, so I've just been using the two regular oven racks. This is a big disappointment, as I thought that rolling rack was a very nice feature. I still plan to go to store and see if they can show me a way to get it in and out without a lot of hassle. If they can't, then I'm leaving it out. You should be able to check this out in the display oven at the store. (2) The timer has a very pleasant chime that goes off, but it is not useful for me, as I often put something in the oven and return to my office to work---where I can't hear when the timer goes off. To compensate, I just take a small timer with me when i return to the office to alert me when it's time to check on something in the oven. What I like: (1) It's wonderful to finally have an oven that heats to the correct temperature and maintains it---hopefully, that would be true of any new oven. (2) I like the electronic controls more than I thought I would. They are quite intuitive and easy to figure out, and they're not cumbersome at all. (3) I really like the auto conversion for convection. I had a convection oven before, but it wasn't a true convection and my oven hadn't been true to temperature for some time, so the auto conversion is helping me to figure out what adjustments to make for cooking with convection. It has already caused me to try out convection when I might not have otherwise. (4) The convection fan is very quiet, unlike my old convection oven. (5) I like the appearance more than I realized once I got it home---the black interior is nice and the SS is better than I thought it would be. I was very worried about fingerprints and constant cleaning, but the brushed SS seems to be easier to maintain than I thought. I am still bothered by the occasional fingerprint---you usualy don't notice it until you get at just the right angle. I'm still in the honeymoon stage with my oven, so the moment I see a fingerprint I grab a microwave cloth with a little water and wash it off and dry it. Mostly I just see one or two smudges, but maybe that's because I keep running back to remove them. We chose the Euro handles rather than Pro, which is my personal preference---I would like the Euro if they didn't have all the texture in the middle. I also prefer the Euro because it comes with a smaller and, in my opinion, better looking logo in SS rather than black. That's about all I can think of right now. As I said, it's still early to pass final judgment, but so far I'm really enjoying using the oven....See MoreThermador, Miela & Jenn-Air 36'' Induction Cooktops
Comments (14)Yes Soly, the red aura is the inner workings of the top when powerfully lit from above. I saw a little red on a Miele in a showroom, but the Kitchenaid I saw recently was alarmingly red. When my hood light is on I can look closely and my Gagg hobs are slightly burgundy, and if I peer down I can see a tiny bit of the workings in red. I don't know if the showroom lights were way more intense than a home hood, but the KA I saw really turned me off. You didn't have to be right above it to see it as you need to be with mine. There's no difference when it's operating...you know it doesn't glow red-hot like an electric smoothtop. Mine always appears black unless you're searching for the reddishness. The Thermador I saw in the showroom didn't seem to glow red either. And it looked really cool. But not as cool as the silver one! The Thermador was a top contendor...I just got a great deal on a fully warranty-ed discontinued Gagg for about what I'd pay for a GE...and I LOVE the knob! Maybe take a flashlight to a showroom and pretend to be a hood? Have you checked out the Bosch's? I think they now have the shut off timers, and Gagg, Therm, and Bosch are all made by the same crew. BTW, had a service check on my Gagg (5 year warranty!) and the dedicated Gagg/Therm/Bosch guy came out in his cool Bosch van. It was SO refreshing to have a tech actually know the product in and out. He says he responds to very few service calls on the induction units...just "is this what it's supposed to sound like" calls like mine. I'm sure it's the same with the Miele dudes. You'll love it no matter which you select!...See More30' slide in electric range - Bosch, KA, or Jenn-Air?
Comments (9)I've been where you are. I also didn't want a bottom handle on the range, as one big handle is more than enough. I dismissed the Jenn-Air due to all the bad reviews/repair records from people in the business. I didn't like the lip on the KA (from smoothtop to controls). I liked the clean lines on the Bosch and Jenn-Aire, but the Bosch won hands down because of it's reviews and style. We have the SS Integra and love it. It's roomy. The cooktop heats up quickly. The fan does come on whenever the oven is turned on but it's not loud, IMO. We haven't used the probe yet, so I can't tell you about that. We're quiet pleased with this range. Word of advice: Just make sure the minimum height of the Bosch will work with the height of your current countertops. If your countertops are less than 36", the Bosch will be higher than your counters. Our counters were lower so we had to build them up in order to make the range fit properly over the counter. I wasn't about to return the Bosch for one I didn't care for; I liked it too much. Also, if you don't have a slide-in currently, you'll need the 3" filler piece behind the range b/c the range does not touch the wall. The Bosch does not come with this peice - at least mine didn't. Any questions, let me know. Deb...See MorePaddleNPedal
