No one has jumped in for ya so I am going to throw in my 2 cents for what it's worth. Hummm... I will share with you what I have cause it is similar in sq footage for bathroom and closet area. You see your upper right corner you could make that corner a toilet room mine is 42" wide then the shower is in the bottom left corner it is basically 5 x 5 and has a nice big window in it that I love. You see the bottom entrance into the space you could put a pantry and long vanity up to where the shower starts. Swinging the door the other way would be better. As far as the line/wall dividing the two spaces you could get rid of it and put in some of those nice pax floor to ceiling cabinets from Ikea and make it a real open space or build a new wall with an opening into a large walk in closet. Thinking you could Eliminate that entrance from the bedroom directly into the closet but maybe you would loose some square footage of hanging space that way. We access ours from within the bathroom area. I spent a really long time trying to see if there was a better way to get more out of our space an also incorporate the washer and dryer that is on the back side of my closet but there was no better way to run the space for us. We get a lot out of our square footage and it looks large. Wish I could post pic's I just haven't tried yet. Anyway you may want 2 stations for a sink I considered it between the shower and toilet room but we really only need one. We rented a house for a vacation one time and it had a huge vanity with two sinks and plenty of room to spread out. We found we only used the one sink there too. Less for me to clean! : ) Well I hope this made some sense.

Thanks for the reply and suggestion jjaazzy. I discussed your idea with my wife as I understood it. She's not too keen on have the bathroom open to the closet. I think we have to explore this a bit more to see how it works for us so we are not eliminating yet. However, you did spawn some ideas so I threw them together and thought I'd post here to get some feedback.

Here is the first option. Both a corner tub & shower. The corner shower looks odd here because of the shape but it gives you an idea. I would make it more angular in the front so it matches the tub.

This is similar but with a free standing tub and a more rectangular shower.

We want a clean, open feeling in the bathroom. One thing to keep in mind is that I am open to moving either wall between the bath and room or bath and closet. I am also open to moving placement of the doors or the swing.

Hummm ok, I want to put out there I am no designer my father was an architect so I don't have an education but I have an appreciation. : ) I do like to play with layouts. I see your point about not joining the shower and closet. Mine came that way so It works for us. I didn't know you wanted both shower and bath tub but... I would still like to see the toilet in the back corner cause you have the space and it's nice to tuck those things away. There are a host of other reasons I like it tucked way away from the other areas but I will leave that to you....... With that said it is nice to walk in and see out a window and to see a gorgeous shower or a beautiful tub. The toilet room I am suggesting doesn't have to be 8ft deep I'd rather have that sq footage in the bathroom area. This would free up some walk around room to get in and out. I just printed out your #2 layout here are a few options 1 run sink along the left side center tub to room opening, on window wall. Run shower down right hand side or #2 shower in the lower left corner and tub on right side (where you put sinks) when you walk in (upper right). I printed out your layout and is it to scale? Are you using one grid = 1ft. Cause I had a hard time figuring out what you have there and this maybe totally off the mark. So I am just working with visuals not actual's. Anyway to give more walk space to the back end of the bathroom the left side I suggested pushing toilet room entrance back and you could angle that wall to meet up with the existing closet wall. The other thing I see is you have a lot of room in the bedroom.. If you came to the inside of the bedroom a few feet you would not loose too much on the bedroom side and gain back some of the sq footage in closet and bath. Not knowing the exact sq footage I was going to suggest one of those closet islands for the walk-in they are like kitchen islands but for the closet they are great for putting clothes out, folding, and a ton's of storage like socks and unmentionables. But again not sure about the scale of things. It seems like you have a nice program your working with layout and stuff I would just keep plugging away at it.... Hopefully some of the others will jump in here and help you out. There are a lot of talented folks here.

Thanks again for your feedback. I tried to visualize your new set of suggestions. First, we are not totally sold on the tub and shower. We may just go with a large shower. We have another bathroom with a nice soaker tub and we've never used it. However, the dual sinks is a must. I tried to convince the wife that one sink would free up space but she wants two. Happy wife = Happy life.

So I played around a bit with your ideas. Here is what I got. BTW, that's a shower not a tub but the tub picture is closer to how I would build the shower as far as angles and shape. I also included the scale to make more sense of things.

I like that better not so cluttered. Shower will be pretty. I just calculated your shower at like 9x10 is that right? With my program I can pull on items to change size and shape. I just want to be sure you base your decision on actualls.

My wife and did some brainstorming last night and kicked around various ideas. I think we came up with rough outline of how we want the bathroom configured. Here is a stetch... it's not exact as far as scale but it's close enough to get a general idea of the concept.

The bathroom space will be roughly 8.5'x13'. The shower will be 8.5'x4'. No shower door will be used to keep an open feel. To each side of the shower will be clear glass panes that go from floor to ceiling. To one side will be a simple vessel sink on concrete counter and the toilet. To the other side will be a matching vessel sink but with a longer counter to also use as a vanity area. The empty space to the right, opposite the toilet will probably have some sort of cabinet or shelving for linens.

The shower will be all tile. Tile will continue into the bathroom area and also on walls to chair rail height. I'm trying to convince the wife to flip the configuration of the vanity and toilet so we can eat into the walk-in closet a bit and build a niche for the toilet. Not really a water closet but a recessed niche to inset the toilet. She doesn't want to lose closet space though.

I believe you have enough space where the toilet is to make that into a separate area. You could have your glass guy put in a frosted enclosure that would be really pretty and you would not loose any closet space. I agree that if you notched into the closet area anyplace but the back end you get all these funky corners that equal loss of space. I believe code is 15" to either side of center line of toilet. (check that) One thing that concerns me is the swing of the door either hitting the toilet directly or proposed glass.
Just wondering have you taken a shower without the door or shower curtain? I looked into this myself cause of the chore of keeping the glass clean. We saw a house that was for sale and it had a really cool small opening without a door but the way the thing was configured you wouldn't have any drafts. We are using my son's shower these days and I tried to leave the shower curtain open a bit to see what it would be like and made the decision it's just too drafty. Thanks for the reply. I like the idea of placing a partition next to the toilet. I too thought about the swing on the door but I thought it would make a nice way of hiding the toilet from direct view. One option would be is to change the swing. The other is a pocket door. My wife actually brought up pocket doors which we could do. Have to consider both.

As for the doorless shower... yes, we have another bath that has no door so we are familiar with it. We're in Southern California so it doesn't get too cold here so draft isn't an issue. There will be some splashing but we can live with that as we do now.

As much as I like pocket doors, for DH and me a pocket door on our master bath would be problematic because that's where we hang our towels when we're not in the shower. (We have other hooks next to the shower for when we're in the shower.) Also if you like to keep bathrobes in the master bath you'll want to figure out where you can hang those.

I like your layout from Monday because of all that nice space on the sink wall. I'd separate the sinks a bit and have a nice long counter with lots of storage below and a bench with a drawer along the wall next to the shower. Your window could be over the bench. Next to the toilet would be a wall with hooks for your bathrobes and towels. Those would be hidden (which I like) when the door is open.

May I suggest, using the last proposed layout by anonymouscuban, rather than putting an oversized shower in the separate space on the outer wall put a regular size shower and the commode in that separate room. That way when one of you are doing your daily toilet the other can be shaving, brushing their teeth or putting on makeup in the other section. Your choice which wall the tub goes on and the double vanity goes on. Make the window in the commode/shower room high and horizontal so you aren't flashing any of the neighbors but you still have good light.

I agree about the towel hooks or rods. I think putting the two sinks along one side together is a good idea and I would leave the door swing like it is for the same reason you said, a visual block from the bedroom. If you placed all the cabinetry on one side toilet niche on the other (behind the door) then you have a nice open space for towel hooks and such maybe even a nice cabinet.

I like this last image best. FYI, I saw a cool idea where someone had a really nice decorative iron coat rack next the the shower where they hung there towels. That might be an idea for that small space between shower and sinks. I am trying to reconfigure our master bath as well and found this thread. My space is a little smaller 8x11 and we are looking to have a shower only. Good Luck and keep us posted with your results!

How about instead of moving the door. Leave the door in the middle and run the sinks down the wall you show now(against the walk in closet) You have plenty of room to split them up so they are not on top of each other. When you move the door to the side you loose the ability in the bedroom to use that corner. Then you could still put a privacy wall up and put a bigger wall storage unit on the exterior wall (bottom right). You know I looked at it again and I will tell you your big wow is going to be looking in and seeing that huge shower and all the glass and tile. The drawback of that wall is going to be it's going to break up the space. I just tore a wall out in my room like that and I am so happy I did. First I was going to make it a kneewall then I said "get rid of it!" It opened up the whole space. How about change the swing of the door put toilet in upper right with solid wall when you walk in and then a door that opens into the toilet space. IOW if you were sitting on the toilet you would be looking out the window. Sinks along the bottom wall with a floor to ceiling storage in lower right. That keeps all your visual blocks close to where you enter the space. and leaves the deep end of the bathroom looking open and spacious.

I agree that you want a sight line down to the shower and window when you look in the open bathroom door. You have plenty of space even if you put the door back in the middle of the room...

You were very helpful in the planning and design of our bathroom so I thought I would come back and share the results. The remodel is 99% done. There are a few decorating things that still need to happen, like adding the towel racks, adding some wall art, new bed linen, etc. but all the hard work is complete.
