I purchased a Viking 48" rangetop with the griddle. When I received it had a metal gray film on it. According to instructions it said to wash with vinegar and water with a scotch brite sponge, then soapy water, rinse and oil. I did all this and went to wife off the oil a few hrs later and it wiped off a lot of this gray film. I have washed and washed and cannot get the gray film off. I wouldn't want to eat food with this on it. I called the store and they said just try doing the seasoning again. I have done these instruction 4 times. Anyone out there with the Viking griddle know how to get that off?

what did you find out? I'm asking because I have a 7 year old dual fuel, and have just experienced a similar problem. I turned it on to preheat it, and about 10 minutes later, I heard a strange noise. When I looked in, the right rear corner of the element was glowing bright orange and giving off sparks. I turned it off immediately and let it cool. I can't tell if something happened to the element itself, or something dripped on it - there are drip-like blobs on it. But I haven't baked anything messy. I've never had an electric oven before, so I don't know anything about them - do the elements die?

I hope someone can give me some sage advice. I'm converting the entire house from LP to Nat Gas. It's been an unbelievable hassle but that's another story. My plumber/mechanical contractor used the parts I ordered to switch my 4 burner plus griddle Viking Range top. He did a great job in adjusting the burners i.e. no yellow flame. However, the next morning when I attempted to cook breakfast, I was not happy., It took forever for the pan to heat up to cook the sausage etc. I went on line to find out more about the size of the flame and mine is clearly very small. I've never had natural gas. I know it doesn't burn as hot as LP however, the burners are rated 15,000 for nat gas and 13,000 something for propane. I fiddled around trying to up the burners had some minimal success but nothing to write home about. I called the parts people as I thought perhaps they sold me the incorrect parts. They assured me what I have is correct. After a lengthy conversation, he stopped and looked at my model number and said that particular year (2001) has a pin. If the orifice is screwed down too tight, it will impede the flow of gas. I don't have the right tools borrowed a box wrench from my framer, he turned one of them partially open and the flame was considerably larger and hotter. Now I'm trying to fix the rest and am having a time budging them they are reamed down so much. My question is, would it be best to completely remove the orifice (if I can actually budge them) and reinstall and how tight is OK or too tight. I could not know how you felt, I am not a mind reader. How would replying to your post with an "I don't know" be better, but you that is what you would have preferred? Evidently you deemed the induction suggestion not to be "helpful" and have decided I was saying "how stupid you are". Where am I saying that? You should have said in your OP that you don't want induction, and that would have prevented people from taking the time to suggest it thinking they were being helpful, not knowing the suggestion was going to make them subject to your blasting and anger. Provide the necessary info in the OP to prevent getting angry at the responses.
