My son-in-law said the same thing. I have 2 small blocks All Marble and Granite gave to me in case I ever needed to match the granite. That should have been a red flag. Can you recommend a granite place ? I found 2 more (for repair) and both said NO! There is a back splash and they gave me a ledge on the window sill. Can you believe I never looked under the sink before and saw the wooden blocks? I will also call my contractor since he deals with granite people. I should have had him oversee this. As I said, my girlfriend found a smaller polaris sink. I am so fed up, I am thinking, if I have to replace the granite, I will use my corian overmount sink that I still have from when I had a laminate counter top.

good luck Missi. I would address the spots quickly. I see that the new ones that appear come off rather easily with a lemon and baking soda followed by a microfiber cloth. I went back over the heavier marks with barkeepers friend and microfiber and many of them came up... I'd be careful with barkeepers friend, though, as it did remove my finish on a few spots -- I may have wet the cloth too much with it. But I would also try the cleaner vinmark suggested. I feel a lot better knowing I can change that sink out if I find the right person to do it so I'm not as upset as I was before. I had a Franke, Dawn and Kohler -- this is all new to me. Never again with Amazon or overstock for me on anything I need to last. My lesson learned.

I got a white-coated grid for my white Kohler Mayfield sink a couple months ago. This is a big single sink we use for prep, esp. for processing veg. Working out a routine for using and cleaning it has been a bit of a challenge, but when we need it now, we really need it and are confident using it. This one has an opening in middle so I can access drain to remove loose veg flotsam, such as broccoli leaves. I have to put an extra inch or two of water into the sink to wash veg from garden that sits on grid, but it's wonderful to have all that sand and gunk sink to bottom while the veg is resting on the rack. (Unlike our old cast iron sink, this sink is very flat on bottom, so we have to throw around some water to wash out the sand when finished. So nice to have the veg remain above the sand.)

“how do I know whether it will rust or not?” Rust in a stainless steel sink is caused by something left on the sink’s surface that is itself rusting, not the sink. It could be a metal spatula or a can. Or it is frequently from people who use steel wool pads to clean their SS sinks, which should not be used. Steel wool pads leave behind tiny particles of metal which rust, not the sink. Also it has been reported on this forum that if your water has a lot of iron in it, when that water dries in the sink, the iron in the water shows up as rusty coloration. All of this can be easily cleaned with Barkeepers Friend and a sponge. Do not leave Barkeepers Friend to sit in the sink. Sprinkle it in the sink, then wipe with a wet sponge and rinse. I like a sink with an offset corner or side drain, like I had with the BlancoDiamond Silgranit Super Single. For SS, Kraus makes good 16 gauge SS sinks with an offset drain. An offset drain allows you to set larger things in the sink without covering the drain, and leaves more space under the sink since the plumbing is off to the side.
