Granite steam pots

Does anyone know if you can use those granite steam pots on a charcoal grill? The kind you steam clams and lobsters in. I am afraid I will either ruin the pot or the water will take forever to get hot enough. I appreciate any input. Thanks

On top of the grill?

yes.

Directly on the coals?

No.

I use one over an open fire quite often, and it's never harmed it.

I appreciate the answer. I did buy one and the store owner said it would be safe to put on a grill. Thanks again.

Thanks Al! We are in far Northern Wi, so too far:( We are in a logging area, and maybe I am looking in all the wrong places. Was wondering about sawmills? Either they are doing something with the bark, or shipping it somewhere I would imagine! I checked the location thread that was started and was hoping to find a Northern or even Central WI site, but I didn't see anything except for Southern WI...which is 6-7 hours away. Still looking, just starting to look into options:) Thank you for all you do!!

Decomposed Granite as outdoor planter/potting soil?

You need something to hold moisture, which decomposed granite will not do. You can mix fine decomposed granite into regular potting mix to improve the drainage, but you need to be making a mix similar to "cactus mix" at least. Keep in mind that plants in containers need to be watered more often than the same plants would if they were planted in the ground.

Are the cleaning ladies spraying a cleaner before they wipe with the microfiber cloth? It is only steam and it should not create streaks . The only time streaking happens is when you use the mop the first few times and the build up of the cleaner comes to the surface..once the cleaners are removed completely, there will not be any more streaks. Ask the ladies what they are using with the micro fiber cloths.. itÂs only ÂwaterÂ and you should not have this problem ... so check with them and see :) Ree

coat the bottom/sides with liquid dish soap to make outside of it easy to clean. don't get any of the soap on the inside-- you will think you ate exlax.

Dang, can't believe that I forgot to mention that.

Not as big a deal on a charcoal stove, but a BIG help when cooking over an open fire.

That used to be a staple of Boy Scout cooking prep when I was with the organization.
