One of the Dropmore Scarlet honeysuckles on my brother`s ranch by Pincher Creek does quite well - gets the full blast of winter and chinook winds - doesn`t need too much trimming up in the spring. Others that have been in the ground for 3 years have not fared well - either dead or nearly dead and are getting replaced with Jackmanii superba. Mandarin honeysuckle is hanging in there also. This past winter there was next to no snow cover, no snowdrifts so a lot of established perennials either didn`t make it or are really struggling.

I own a Perfect Flame 4-burner LP Gas Grill model number GAC3615, and have had it for 4 months. Tonight, I lit the BBQ to preheat my grill to 350 degrees. I placed 1 large rack of ribs and 1 small rack of ribs on the grill and turned the heat to its lowest setting on 2 of the 4 burners. In approximately 7 minutes, I got up to baste the ribs and the grill was engulfed in flames. A hole 10 inches in diameter had burned through the hood of the grill. The back portion of the metal hood turned a glowing red and began to melt, dripping molten metal onto the wheel of the grill which also melted. As the metal was burning and melting, it turned white and sparkled like a fourth of July fireworks sparkler. As the rear of the hood continued to burn, I went inside and got a fire extinguisher to put out the 3 foot tall flames. Since the gas was still on, the fire extinguisher had no effect on the flames, but it did work to put out the flaming wheel and the grass that had caught fire. I called the fire department since the metal was melting and dripping near the nearly full propane tank. Just as the fire department arrives, my husband was able to turn off the gas and the fire department was able to extinguish the flames. With three firemen, and multiple years of experience between them, they remarked that they had never seen a grill catch on fire like that. They were also surprised at the awful smell that had come from the grill and advised us to stay out of the yard and away from the grill to avoid breathing in whatever chemicals were released from the fire.

After less than a year in service, all of our Perfect Flame's burners are cracked, one so badly that there is absolutely NO way to adjust the heat. Everything is torched. And, like others, DH can't even get the bolts off to replace them IF he could get replacements. Of course, as everyone has already found out, Lowe's does not offer any help. They carry a couple fo peripherals for the Perfect Flame, but not parts like burners. They tell you to go to the manufacturer. And guess what? The manufacturer told us to go to Lowe's. RUNAROUND! The gentleman at Lowe's was so solicitous and said that he would call the manufacturer for us and get back to us in a couple of days. It's been 2 weeks and no call yet. Don't think there will be, do you? Bottom line (for us, anyway) is that we will never again purchase a "store" brand. It will definitely cost us more, but we will buy only a name brand like Weber, CharBroil, etc. Something at least that we know we will be able to purchase parts for.

Hollysprings - Ventilation price is not the issue. The issue is the cutting and moving of cabinets. My kitchen is a kosher kitchen which has a lot of complications when doing a layout. My kitchen is spacious to accommodate the need for doubles of everything, yet it is very utilitarian. Its design is superb and meets my needs. I have had professionals chef cook in my kitchen and praise the functionality as well as the beauty of my kitchen. In fact, one asked to come back and use my kitchen again. Ventilation only becomes an issue if I install a grill or a CC or BS. We have finally concluded we cannot install a CC or BS range because cutting and moving cabinets will cause other issues and will not look well. We are contemplating your suggestion of protecting a deck area. Also under consideration is a 30 inch BS char broiler which can be placed where a breakfast bar is currently located. The breakfast bar can be removed and a new counter top and 3 cabinets can be installed. If we do this, we will ventilate with a 900 CFM unit (although only 600 is necessary, I believe). I understand your feelings about the lack of ventilation with my electrolux - I was concerned. But the engineers at electrolux assured me it was not necessary - and it hasn't been!!! I cook constantly and many people use my kitchen. No one has felt the ventilation to be inadequate - perhaps cathedral ceilings and a ceiling fan help odors to disappear. I have wallpaper in my kitchen and there are no smoke marks or oil splotches on it, nor are there any on my ceilings. Sidpost - thanks for the interesting suggestion, Sandra, I called solaire and firemagic. Both did not recommend the usage of their portables indoors. I had thought of putting a grill on a moveable cart and placing the cart right outside my french doors so I could stay inside and grill outside. But they did not think that was a good idea. I try to think outside of the box - but safety is a paramount concern. If you find a way to achieve our aim - let me know.
