Restoring old Dolls

I have two of my dolls from Christmas 1939. They are in need of some repair, legs, arms, faces need cleaned and

some fine cracks removed, eyes fixed. I do not think they

are real bad, but do need some help. They have cloth bodies.

Has anyone had experience with having dolls redone? I am

looking for any information I can find....books, websites,

personal experience. I do not want to do them, I want to

find someone that does dolls.

They sound like composition dolls and it cost a fortune to restore them, lots of time involved. I collected dolls for 20 years and had porcelain dolls restored, but didn't bother with the comps.

I'm remodeling my kitchen (diy) and just taking a break from the kitchen forum (priceless!).
I do this repair - or I will when the kitchen is done. I'll be happy to bid a price on them from the photos you can email me. I don't know how to reach you directly or if it "proper" for me to offer my services on this forum.

Another 'old Flooring' restoration question -100 yr old Maple

Hello Everyone, I searched the forum index in regards to the my query, but no luck, so apologises if I've overlooked anything. My husband and I salvaged a 100 yr old Maple floor and installed it in a low traffic area bedroom. It's in beautiful, near "petrified" condition and we do not wish to sand or otherwise alter it much at all. As best as we can tell, the only previous old finish that remains visible in some areas, is some type of wax (the building from which it was salvaged stood empty and unused for many years).We would like to remove the patches of old waxy substance and reapply another wax product without using any other type of sealer or finish. Is this advisable and if so what brand/type of wax would be best to use? Also what product would best clean and remove the old wax? Thanks so much for any recommendations.

I have an 1890 victorian with copper plated steel door hardware and, after cleaning, they looked like yours. I wanted to have them replated but it's expensive. I stumbled onto diy copper plating instructions on the web. It's surprisingly easy and cheap. All u need is copper sulfate (sold as RootKill in the hardware store) D batteries and a scrap of copper pipe. The result is quite beautiful. I even copper plated the door hinges - plus many more items aound the house, including a lamp. My husband couldn't believe it. But, really, it's so easy and the cost is so minimal, I wonder more people don't do ot! Good luck to you.

Pattern for old 8" doll clothing

So, the pattern arrived a week or so ago. I traced the pattern onto heavy sew-on interfacing, then cut out a pair of pants. Finally got them sewed today. OH MY!!! This must be a pattern meant for a larger doll, as I followed all the directions (1983 on the pattern) and the picture shows....TOO BIG! I'm going to have to cut them down in length and width of the leg. It's one of those patterns where it's both front and back in the same piece. Sew inseam, sew crotch seam, waistband calls for 1/8" elastic (which I do not have....can you even buy it any more?) Anyone have suggestions on cutting this pattern down to size for my skinnier Campbell Kid? (I have more red fabric, that's not at issue at all.)

Many years ago I sold a couple of antique dolls to these people-they made an appearance at one of our local hotels. My dolls were in need of repair-in fact had been to a doll hospital once--head and body were from different dolls. They took my dolls and sold them in San Francisco on consignment-nice little price at the time. Bet they could tell you who could do repairs.http://www.theriaults.com/
