jen-air gas gril at lowes?

Any comments on this one? I don't care about side burners. They look nice but I never use them. How does it compare at the same price as MM?

Hard to say. I don't see or read anything about a rear burner for the rotiserie, nor do I see a price. Underneath storage appears to be less, (If it has any). And, of course as you mentioned, the lack of the side burner. The grates and overall construction does not seem to be equal in materials either. A lot of porcelin enamel use and not as much stainless as the MM from Sams. I really don't see much of a comparison if you ask me. I think Jenn-air was a pioneer in indoor modular cooking and has done a great job for over 20 years at that, but I am not sure about thier entry into the outdoor cooking arena. Just my thoughts.

Did you ever decide which to buy? I too am debating between these two grills. Although bsbbq has a great point about Jenn-Air, there's something in knowing you have a recognized brand (and yes, I realize MM is actually GrandHall).

Just curious...Jenna

Guys and gals, don't get to participate much but I wanted to throw in my 2 cents as I was fortunate enough to pick up three from the JJ Lowe's shipments....... The Mini White (very unique looking stalk when it splits), the Thumbelina and the Divine (picture of the bloom on the Divine shown here, all three blooms had different stages of coloration, really striking). The store I picked them up at, the Divine and Thumbelina both had active blooms so it was nice to confirm I was getting what the tag noted them to be. Thumbelina bloom aroma is simply wonderful.... strong citrus scent, great stuff! Oh, all three had multiple stocks, the Mini white has 7 points, the Devine and Thumbalina each had 5. One more thought before I go back to lurking...... great local source for the Tampa bay area with good pricing for Plumerias is the Plumeria Hut in Lithia. The owners are Plumeria nuts like most of us and the owner is quite knowledgeable. Most of my other Plumeria have come from Bree and Eric. Thanks......... Mark Adams

Microwave/oven combo installed in new build 2018. "F2" error message July of 2022, so whole unit out of commission. (Homebuilder has same unit, same outcome.) Jenn-air said right off the bat we'd have to wait a while for the replacement control board. Just had yet another contact with them, during which they insist there's been no recall over that part, but they still cannot provide that part (?) and would I like to put us on a list to go to an internal review board, for consideration of a pro-rated replacement unit. My 2 questions: why would we WANT another Jenn-air?? and if they can't cough up the part because of demand ... how is there NOT a recall? I asked if they couldn't "rob" a part off a set in inventory, and the tech acted like he didn't understand the question. So, here we are. Oh, yeah, and on my first contact, I gave them the model number and serial number, and they asked ME for the part #!! How would I know the damn part #???

Your right on the Culinarian's price. That is with the self cleaning oven. It would be another $400 to get a color added. The manual clean is closer to $4K which would put it in the same price range as Wolf, Viking and others. I have looked at the Blue Star and Bertazzoni's. For the Berta's the added $500 for color moves it too close to the Blue Star and the Open burner Viking. Plus I really don't like the look of their grates, there seems to be too much space between the tines. But the build looks really high quality. Our situation is complicated in that we've had to replace some old appliances that were failing, but we aren't ready to remodel the whole kitchen and probably won't for at least 5 years. When we do remodel we may put in a 36" instead of 30". Also the whole vent situation adds another cost, at least we have the ducting to the outside. Who knows I may convince my wife yet that a pro style range has too many added capabilities. All of the GE ranges I've looked seemed to be of high quality in terms of fit and finish. We were at a summer rental that had a two oven stove with the small oven on top and that really seemed to be a good arrangement in that for single sheets you did not have to heat a large oven. The GE two oven units (gas or dual fuel) only come with an oven drawer on the bottom and it is my understanding that they take a very long time to preheat. There is also a Kitchenaid/Maytag unit that has a similar arrangement to the Frigidaire but both high power burners are at the front of the range. I want at least one high power burner in the back for boiling water and stuff as I have two young kids and want to put pots as far from their reach as possible.

We bought a 1996 house which has the same thing going on. We called in a FP guy and the low flame is just what it is - - we have no adjustments. He said the blue should disappear and the flames might get bigger after 45 minutes or so. We noticed only a slight change, but it did have less blue. As far as the cold air, we didn't noticed that until this winter. We bought a small roll of fiberglass insulation at Lowe's. We cut a strip to size and put it inside the vent at the bottom of the FP. We just have to remove it when we turn the FP on. It helps a lot with the cold air. We didn't have any mold smell coming through though. I've also seen those magnetic vent covers which may work, but I like the idea that the fiberglass doesn't show. We can't afford a new system, so we hardly use ours. It is a quite pitiful flame, since we had a wood burning FP in our last house. Good luck.

I looked at the Jenn-air a little closer and found it to have lower quality items like plastic casters, (like office furniture would). That really turned me off. I think for the same money the MM is a much better value. I think for an extra $200 the Virco at Costco can not be beat. I bought one two weeks ago and could not be happier. I looked at the Jenn-air first but I didn't feel the grill was in the same class as the MM or Virco. As far as brands go, I would not be surprised if the Jenn-air was made for them by someone else anyways. I think that if brand is of a concern, you might want to stick to Weber. I think that today, too many manufacturers live on their legacy and don't necessarily build as good a product as they used to. I sometimes see the better built items from the more obscure companies, because they want to build a name, not live off one. I have cooked a great many items on my Virco so far and have had nothing but perfection. I rotisseried some chickens on Memorial Day, they were perfect, nice and juicy. No complaints yet and it is made in Taiwan. Full 304 stainless steel from stem to stern. Very good fit and finish. Just my two cents worth (maybe four!)

Thanks for your added input! I appreciate it. Costco is not in my area but I will look more seriously at the MM. Thanks again! Jenna
