Help - Micro/convection oven doesn't fit!

I am afraid the shelf we have for our micro/convection oven is too small. It is a countertop model and we created a space with some clearance, but none of the information stated that there need to be FOUR INCHES on all sides (only the manual once it arrived.) ACK!

With the oven on the shelf we have:

Back - 5 inches clearance

Sides - 1.25 inch on each side

Top - 2 inches clearance

It is a Kenmore Elite microwave/convection oven model number 67902 (same as 67903 and 67909, just different finishes)

So I can either

(1) Just put it in and hope for the best. My husband suggested putting some vent holes on four of the five sides which are adjacent to other cabinets (but all have doors, so it won't vent "out".) I know that the back side clearance is the most important, but if it doesn't have enough room for the the heat to escape out the sides it could be a problem.

(2) Back to the drawing board and find something that fits our dimensions - 24.5" deep x 25" wide and 16.5" tall.

(3) Other suggestions?

We really wanted a microwave/convection oven, but would just get a microwave if we had to :(

The best laid plans of mice and men.... (and kitchen renovators.) Thanks...
