I agree with GrillMeister. I bought my first Genesis 3000 when Weber first started making them in the 80s. I had a traditional Charbroil, and the aluminum castings corroded to where the whole thing turned white. Also, the "H" shaped pressed-steel burner corroded to where I had very little heat control. And the chrome wire grills lasted maybe a year. The engineer in me really liked the Genesis design with the pipes for burners, the flavorizer bars and the porcelain coated parts. I did the math, and if the Genesis only lasted up to its warranty, it was cheaper to own the Genesis than to buy Charbroils like the one I had. That Genesis lasted over 10 years. I'm now on my second Genesis; a 1000, which is about 8 years old or so. (I found I didn't use the external burner) I've replaced the bars and grates with stainless parts. And this past weekend, I replaced the rails that the bottom tray slides on. Weber sent those to me at no charge. If I were buying a new grill now, it would be a Silver C. I wouldn't spring for the Gold, cause the SS lid is not that big of a deal to me. I can replace the bars and grates in stainless if I need to down the line. I wouldn't spring for the Summit series, 'cause it's a lot more money for something that is not much more functional. It does look cool, though... The Silver Weber is a great cooking machine.

Webers are everywhere, I have owned a couple through the years friends have owned them and they are fine grills for the price (the charcoal ones) But Webers you can buy everywhere, are far cheaper depending on the model, have tons more advertising so of course you are always going to have more people recommending something of which virtually everyone has or have owned. That's like saying on a post about Beer. 1 count the number of people that recommend Budweiser 2 count the number of people that recommend Deschutes Brewery, "The Abyss" Bud is one of the worst beers ever brewed, it is classic horse pee as far as beer goes. YET it sells more than any other American beer, nothing comes close because it is sold everywhere and puts out many millions in advertising. 1000s upon 1000s would recommend Budweiser as their beer of choice in this country. Now Deschutes Brewery The Abyss ale is one of the very best beers in the world, not just the USA. That would be my recommendation for the best beer. Now which one is truly "better"? Horse pee with millions in advertising that is available on every street corner in the country for cheap or truly one of the best beers in the world, only available from one place and only a couple months out of the year for $14 a 22oz bottle? If you only have say $150 for a grill then a good little Weber Kettle is by far the best choice. If you are talking about spending between $500-$1200 though? Any number of Kamado type grills be it the Big Green Egg, Primo, or the Vision are better BY FAR. Most of the Webers mentioned here I think are what, about $600-$900? The Vision I got from Costco was $570, less money, lifetime warranty, costco return policy, will BBQ, Grill, Sear, Smoker, Water Smoker, Pizza Oven, Wok, easy to start, very efficient use of charcoal, can maintain almost exact temps like you can on your indoor range from 200 up to 800+ degrees. So $570 Kamado or $600++ Weber Gas is a total no brainer as far as usability and value for the money. If Avid still prefers Gas no matter what then for the money the Solaire Infravection grills are far better than the Webers though cost a few hundred more, but what is an extra $200 when you are spending $1200 when you get a far better grill? Lower priced Weber Charcoal grills are hard to beat. If you are spending $900-$1500 then there are certainly better options for that price. and Charcoal beats the heck out of gas for absolutely everything except for ease of use.

I have a Weber gas grill and I get a lot of grease in the grease pan...but I also cook a lot of dark meat chicken and pork roasts on the grill. Thinking about it, if the grease pan is underneath the grill, like on my Weber, the type of metal isn't going to make any difference because it's never going to get hot enough to fume. For some reason, I was thinking about those flavorizer bars in my Weber (that sit over the burners rather than having lava rock or ceramic briquettes) when I responded originally. Definitely, you would NOT want those to be made out of galvanized metal and have the fumes permeating your food. Oh, and Webers are fantastic grilling machines. Flare-ups are pretty much history. Expensive grill if you buy new but I found a working grill for only $20. The end casting on the hood was broken so it didn't have a handle. Used it for few weeks until I located another parts grill for $35. Fixed the hood and salvaged a set of slightly used burners and cooking grid for replacements later on. Anyway, just had to tell you how much I love the Weber. This is our 4th or 5th grill, by far the best grill we've owned plus it represents the least am't of money we've ever spent on one. I'm just thrilled with my bargain grill!!

Bob_b: I have to disagree with some of the others. Having done them both ways for years, I have found that there is no lost flavor, by boiling them. But you can't boil them vigorously, just Simmer them, very slow, just about bubbling. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - LouÂs Broiled Spare Ribs and Finger Licking Good , Sauce I use Country Style or Sizzlers , cut a little thicker than 1/2 inch,I like a little meat with the bones. For about 3 1/2 lb. of meat. Put a pot of water to boil, on the range top, with just enough water To cover the Ribs. Add: 1/3 teaspoon of Old Bay Seasoning , Garlic Powder and Onion Powder. An Italian pinch of Ground Cloves , Basil and Oregano 1/4 Teaspoon of Black Pepper 2 Bay leaves Simmer for about 90 minutes ( very low , not boiling ) Meanwhile, put in a small bowl : 1/2 cup of Bullseye or Krafts Original Barbecue Sauce 1/2 cup of Ketsup 1/2 teaspoon of Mustard 1/4 teaspoon of Old Bay Seasoning 1/3 Teaspoon of Garlic Powder & Onion Powder An Italian pinch of Cloves , Basil and Oregano Black Pepper - to taste. 2 tablespoons of Brown Sugar and Maple or Pancake Syrup 2 Heaping tablespoons of Grape Jelly and Strawberry Jam Smooth out the Jelly and Jam with a fork and mix well. This may sound like overpowering sweetness but it is not and Caramelizes perfectly. - - - - - - - - - - - - I use a 9x 13 SS pan and lay some Sauce on the bottom. Then I lay in the simmered Ribs and spoon the Sauce on them. If there is some sauce left over , save it for basting when the ribs are almost done. I cook them in an electric range Broiler, set on Low, Placed on a shelf about 8 inches below the burner. They will cook in about 25 minutes. Test after 20 minutes Ummmmmmmeemm Gooooooooood !!!!!!!! Lou PS: There are many who will dissagree with this method but have never tried it. And some say they don't like the sweet sauce but have never tried that either. I've gotten great feedbacks.
