I've been grill shopping too. I narrowed my choices down to Lynx, Fire Magic, Twine Eagles and Alfresco. I saw all of these grills at local dealers. I did not consider Kalamazoo because of the high price, but I did research it on the Internet. All these brands have the reputation of being very fine grills (which should be the case in this price range) so it comes down more to a matter of personal preference rather than quality, build or performance issues, IMHO. Here are my impressions of each brand: Lynx -- I was very impressed when I saw this grill in person; its design is streamlined and elegant and certainly would win first prize for sheer beauty. It also has a nice set of features -- lots of BTUs/sq in of grilling surface, a multiposition, 3-speed rotis, an interior halogen light for night grilling, a spring-actuated lid assist, a smoker box (no smoker burner though) and the cast-brass main burners you mentioned. The pricing is right in line for this class of gas grills. It wound up being my second choice. Twin Eagles -- the Lynx dealer also carried Twin Eagles so I saw them side by side. Very similar features as Lynx, but not quite as pretty, not quite as many BTUs, and not quite as expensive. Like the Lynx, it's American-made of 304 SS, and the fit and finish appeared excellant. That's true of all the four brands I saw, and, I'm sure, also of the Kalamazoo, except that it's in a category by itself in terms of build and materials, as you would expect for the price. Fire Magic -- this is a very old company with an excellant reputation for selling very high quality grills. However, for the price, I think you could do better. IMHO, Fire Magic is lacking innovation in both the appearance of the grill, which I would rank at the bottom of this group and especially that tall, tear-drop shaped lid, and also in the ommission of such a desirable feature as an interior light. They sell a clip-on, but who wants that? All that, combined with distinctly higher pricing than the others (except for Kalamazoo) means you really have to want the special features they do offer--such as the ability to do charcoal grilling in the main burner compartments--to choose this grill. Alfresco (even though you didn't ask) -- this wound up being my first choice. I ordered an 30" LX2 cart model (the LX2 is the higher-end of their two grill lines) with one infrared sear burner, which was shipped today. I saw the Alfresco at the same store as the Fire Magic and there was no question in my mind. Alfresco was the winner. Why? The pricing is similar to my second-choice Lynx, but Alfresco has one feature that really iced it for me. The rotis motor is built into the grill and you can leave the rotis rod right in place while you're grilling other things. In all the other grills I saw, you have to store the motor and rod when not in use. With these others, the motor, when in use, hangs outside the grill and the rod penetrates through openings in the lid. With Alfresco, the integrity of the lid is not compromised in this manner, and you don't have to trouble yourself with storage or with installing the components when you start rotissing. It also makes for a much sleeker appearance. The warming rack has four positions, one of which swings it completely out of the way when you're rotissing so that you also don't have to worry about removing the rack. Also, unlike the Lynx (and like the Fire Magic), the Alfresco has a dedicated smoke burner right below its smoke box, another feature that's important to me. Plus, the Alresco is almost as nice looking as the Lynx. Still, if money were no object, I'd be mighty tempted by a Kalamazoo. Judging by the pix on the Net, they're built like a tank and those "dragon burners" sound like they'd survive more than a season or two in Hell itself. Not that you'd be using it there.

Hope I can jump in. I'm also in the market and have three requirements: the entire grill needs to be able to hold up to salt air near the coast, it needs to have infrared main burners as an option, and it needs to be made in in America (when spending this kind of money it sure better be supporting American jobs). Fire Magic is made in the US and has a good warranty but was not readily apparent if it offers IR. Lynx covers the first two but their website does not list where they are made. FB announced a CA factory 23 hours ago. I just messaged them on FB and they confirmed all of their grills are made in the USA - and that they now need to update their website. So aside from Lynx, does anyone have additional suggestions for rust adverse, IR, and US made? Thanks.

What I am buying as soon as they are in stock at Costco (hopefully this weekend)is a Vision Kamado Grill. It is basically just like a Big Green Egg, in some ways even a bit better. The thickness of the ceramic is a bit thicker than a BGE. It comes with everything you need such as the "nest" the side boards, pizza stone, cover, double racks whereas the BGE comes with nada, you have to add it to the price. A BGE of this size and all the attachments would be about $1200. At Costco they are selling the Vision Grill for $570 and it comes with a Lifetime warranty. Can be used as a Grill obviously, but also a regular smoker and water smoker, an oven and cooks Pizzas great. It can dialed in temp wise from 200 up to over 800 with ease and will hold a 225 degree slow smoke temp for well over 24 hours on one small load of charcoal. It will also be ready from the time you light the charcoal to between 600-700 degrees in about 5 minutes which is basically the same as a gas grill, except the gas grill wont get that hot unless its "true infrared". This is what it looks like.

There are certainly plenty of non-stick pans that are ompatible with induction, although they are mostly the higher-end variety, rather than the cheap light weight weight aluminum teflon-coated pans. My fave fry ultimate fry system consists of cookware that is perfect for induction and gas and are made by the high end German company Fissler. The Ultimate Steelux Set MSRP $329 contains four items - two of Fissler's best fry pans and two accessories to enhance their uses. Coated with Protectal Plus, an 11" diameter non-stick sealant that is rock-hard and nigh impossible to scratch is free of all harmful contaminants found in other nonsticks. Then Fissler 11" diameter Steelux is a deep frypan with rounded edges to facilitate easy flipping. The 11 diameter inch Crispy Steelux frypan has a unique interior Novogrill cooking surface that allows food to be grilled without the use of oils or fats. The regular fry pan is perfect for high heat coooking, such as steaks and other things, while the non-stick is perfect for lower heat cooking applications. Both frypans are suitable for use on a variety of stovetops including induction and are fitted with comfortable handles. The Ultimate Steelux Set also includes the Clippix spatter shield (also, by far the best splatter shield in the business)that fits on either frypan and a turner, specially designed for use with Fissler frypans. I gave away almost all my All-Clad cookware and have replaced them with Fissler in both their Pro collection and their Intensa collection. They are so far and away the best cookware I have ever used it is mind-boggling. Anyway, this long prologue is mostly meant to make the point that one should almost never make their cooktop decisions based on their current pots and pans, unless that investment is in the thousands of dollars. I would likely get a 30" or 36" induction with either a high output gas hob for stir frying and/or grilling. I don't know why I mentioned grilling, as induction under high heat is better than gas. Only grilling over an open flame would have advantages, but the mess inside would be astounding. When the weather is foul, I grill inside with my Fissler 11" high temp pan on induction and get great results. Obviously in nice weather I go out on the deck and grill on the Kalamazoo gas grill. I also use the 60,000 BTU side burner outside for wok cooking, as that requires far more heat than any available gas indoor burner permits. Greg
