Refridgerator of the future---no thanks
Comments (9)I would be shocked if this actually comes to market and be affordable. I mean my current SZ runs on so little energy it is almost stupid. I think the manual says it uses about the energy of one 40W lightbulb per day (as we speak I'm running 3 60W bulbs in my pendant lamps). And I can only imagine it is going to get better over time. I think the days of the 'chest where you place your food' is here to stay. I for one would not be interested in this concept....See MoreIs the fridge bolted down in older mobile home?
Comments (9)Yeah, refrigerators in tight cubbies are no fun to move. Leave it to the experts, the experts being the guys delivering the new refrigerator. When you buy a new refrigerator the store typically will offer removal of the old one with delivery of the new one. It might cost an extra $50 or so, but do it. Have it all empty and ready to go. Put your food in a cooler, since it will take 24 hours before the new refrigerator can be turned on if it was not kept upright during the move and delivery, and up to 24 more hours to come to stable temp after you turn it on. If you do want to move it yourself, have it empty and rock it straight forward, maybe using the open door as a lever. You may break the hinges, though, so be careful. Measure your opening in all dimensions and see if you can find a refrigerator of appropriate size....See Morefind age of philco fridge
Comments (3)What I have found very helpful for old appliances is first of all trolling the various sites for restored appliances (although they guess, too, sometimes), keeping an eye on ebay for manuals and catalogs (a lot of the time you can read the entire content in the listing to know if it's relevant for you), reading old magazines on google books and looking at the ads, and there are forums specifically devoted to antique appliances, although they tend more to stoves....See MoreWhy the freezer on the bottom??
Comments (15)Oh, I do remember the small freezer compartments that were manual defrost ;0) My freezer now (stand alone and in my mud room) is manual defrost, on purpose. 5 years old, and the appliance clerk at Sears didn't know what I was talking about when telling her I did not want self defrosting. An appliance salesperson?) I had only ever had manual defrost, a Kelvinator for more than 30 years without skipping a beat, and knew it kept foods longer while maintaining the package contents quality over things kept in my refrigerators self defrosting freezer. AnnKH - this house had large Amana fridge, single door with bottom mount, when we bought it. I loved it. The compressor failed - 1 months out of warranty - the day before we closed on the house. The seller had it repaired with my approval (it was that or accept a credit towards new). Three years later, compressor failed again. I bought Kitchen Aid french door, bottom mount, and no complaints at all but I would have been happy too if the Amana had not failed. I did like the layout of the Amana for food storage....See Morejules0988
