Wolf range grill cover warps

I just got off the phone with a friend who has the big Wolf range -- six burners, grill, all the bells and whistles. She's had a problem with the grill cover, which sits so tightly between the burners that the heat from them makes the thing red hot, and it has warped. Wolf has replaced the grill cover, and duplicated the problem, but doesn't have a solution, except to warn people not to touch the thing in future manuals (my friend burned her hand once, not realizing how hot the thing gets).

Anyone have this problem? Or heard of it?

On my Wolf w/grill, using my very large 6qt. skillet on a burner will sometimes cause the cover to warp but it returns to normal after cooling. Not a big deal but I was surprised when it first happened.

This is a 4 burner dual fuel with grill.

I think in the manual it states some nonsense about not using "oversized" pans.

Our Bluestar does the same thing. The cover will warp a bit when using the burners next to it but it returns to its shape when it cools. Not a big deal...especially since we rarely use the grill cover anyway. When we spiff up the kitchen for company and for show, we may occassionally pull the cover out and use it but most of the time and especially when cooking (company or not), the cover is tucked away in a cabinet. We really rarely use it...I like the look of the grill better.

Thanks for the feedback. I would really like to hear from somebody that has the Wolf grill how the veggie/hamburger grilling is. Another thing that irks me with the Wolf is the fact that the grill cover is not at the same height with the burner grates on each side. The monogram has it where the grill and the burner grates are all even so you have a 36 inch wide continuous surface. I really like Wolf, but more I think about it, their AG just does not appeal me. Plus they will be re-designing the model. Capital does not have a dual fuel right? For under $6000 with a discount, to me the Monogram seems like a great deal as a dual fuel professional stove. Not much raving about it, but also not much complaints either.

Denaliman I do not have the IR burner. This grill gets real hot and cannot image needing higher heat. The temperature readout regularly shows 750-800 degrees, but feels even higher. Cooking to fast is more of a problem than not having enough heat. I have never cooked on an IR burner so cannot comment on that aspect. My burners are easily removed so if you want an IR burner later it would take 5 minutes to replace. You remove the grates, flavor grids, and burners to clean. The grill heats up fast and when the cast burners get hot that stay hot. I really can't imagine needing more heat. With 96,000 btu's from 3 burners on high that is a lot of heat. My old Weber had 3 burners which I believe were 12,000 btus's each and it cooked fine. What you will find is that you turn the burners down after searing and cook on medium high. When you open the hood on a warm day you will not believe the heat that comes out. The 790 has the right amount of grilling area. You can really cook a lot of food on it. With the zone panels in place the temperature can be varied from burner to burner. One word of caution is the grill is really heavy. It moves easily on the wheels, but mine was a tailgate delivery so had to unpack and get it into place. If buying from a store they will set it up for you if not you must do a little assembly. My wife thought I was crazy to spend so much on a grill, but 4 years later she admits it was a worthwhile purchase.

I'll explain my post (the 1st response to OP), but I won't get into a debate over which range is best, because feelings run high among some folks, and I respect everyone's individual preferences. For myself only (I have the 30" Wolf DF range), I never, ever Wok cook, so having instant, high heat flames is not, and never will be, important to me. I sautee all of the time, and the heat produced by my burners more than meets my sautee requirements. Likewise, while people sometimes talk about how many BTUs their ranges produce and how they can bring water to a boil in "x" minutes, that has never been important to me. The BTUs on the range I have are more than sufficient for the kind of cooking I do...which is home variety, often at a gourmet (but certainly not professional) level. I wanted a range that had wonderful low burner output and could melt chocolate without burning, could hold a sauce without scorching, etc. And the DF does that beautifully. I like the fact that 3 of the burners on the 30" range have a high BTU (I think it's 15,000 - but don't quote me), and the one in the back has only 9,000 BTUs for its high heat level. All of that works wonderfully well for the way I cook. So, bottom line, I recognize my needs may not be similar to people who are much more professional in the kitchen, who need a range with a higher level of performance. For my wants the DF range (with its wonderful convection oven, which I truly love) makes me ecstatic every time I use it, and produces fabulous meals.

We have a 36" range with a grill. When the weather is nice (here in MN) we grill outside. Maybe we use in indoor grill 12 - 15 times a year. It's work to clean (I use a wet paper towel and tongs when the grill is really hot). Also you are going to need a really good exhauster. Our's is about 1400 cfm The rest of the time we use the SS Grill cover. Which comes in real handy when we are cooking. It's also great to have a 12" space between the left and right burners. I don't know what the cost difference would have been.

Remove the cover when using burners, replace when done

No warping that I have noticed. Our problem is flare-ups from the grill scorching the drip pans.

Wolf. I'd describe the drip pan situation as the finish (black paint?) bubbling on the surfaces of the drip pans closest to the charbroiler. Most, if not all, of the damage was done when grilling a large piece of salmon.

Wow. How old is your unit? Wolf may replace the pans even if out of warranty.

I would think there is that much heat also below a searing hot pan and then damage there also.

Something sounds fishy hehe..

Is it just me? I would think a $15,000 stove that supposedly is built for quality should not be warping the cover. Their older stoves models did not do that because they used better grade stainless steel. Isn’t it worrying that they just say, don’t worry it goes back when cooled?
