How to remove varnish smell on new wooden table
Comments (3)I do not think this should be the case with furniture coming from a store. Did they just make the piece for her before it was delivered? First thing she should do is complain to the store and make sure she can return it if it doesn't go away in a reasonable time. At any rate, if she's going to keep it, she could: a. Put it in the garage or in a storage unit until it is cured. b. Send it back to the store and ask them to keep it there until it is cured. c. Send it back to the store, period. d. Not sure about this one -- but cover it with some plastic to contain the fumes until it cures. If it is really really strong the fumes will still come out. I would do "a" if I really loved the table. Masking the odor is not going to do anything to help, it is the fumes that are the problem....See MoreAnyone Know how to Clean Grunge from Rubber Laptop Buttons???

Comments (45)figured I would bring this post back to life since I am now in need of cleaning my faux wooden blinds lol! in response to the last persons post re: using Windex, do not use Windex wipes. not sure about the spray but i happen to have a pack of windex wipes next to me and it says not for use on any wood type surfaces. pledge makes good wipes for that but you would prob need a few packages if your blinds were reallyyy dirty. anyway i am going to try dawn soap with warm water since mine are filthy! i had a small fire me in my room last summer and the insurance company had someone come in to clean the walls, blinds Etc and only bc i had to take my bounds down to fix a broken tilt cord, i just now noticed how horribly they "cleaned" them. (see picture reference) so ill post the before pictures now and after pictures once im done. in the pics im attaching now show how bad the back side of the blinds were that dont face towards me vs the 3rdnpic which is what i usually have them set to..ugh! at least 8 only have 1 side to really scrub at vs dusting the other cleaner side lol!...See MoreVarnish failure on wood work
Comments (1)What are you in love with, the wood or the finish? If you love the wood, it is incumbent upon you to use a finish which, when, inevitably, it becomes degraded, can be renewed without damage to the wood below. That's why shellac is preferred over harder-to-remove finishes, even if they are more durable at the beginning of their cycle. It being a spirit varnish, is removed almost as easily as it is applied, and renewal (re-polishing without total removal) is easily carried out in short order.
