Beginner tomato help

Hello! My name is Lily, and I am an absolute beginner at growing tomatoes! I bought 4 tomato plants at a garden shop a few months ago (2 Apollos, a Beefsteak and a Grosse Lisse), and have been watching them grow taller and taller in the last 2 months. I recently planted them all into 40cm pots, as I don't have a garden. Thing is...I now haven't a clue what to do!

One thing I noticed was that pre-potting, there were flowers beginning to grow on the stems. According to some internet sites, they need to be pinched out otherwise I won't get any tomatoes. Is that true? I'm a little brokenhearted as I got very excited seeing those little yellow blossoms (because it meant I hadn't accidentally killed my first tomatoes).

Another thing I'm confused about is fertilising requirements - I'm seeing different stuff everywhere. I currently have a bag of potash (granulated) and a liquid 'tomato food' fertiliser (which also has potassium). Is there a particular one people would recommend?

Looking forward to any advice and meeting the people on this forum!

Lily
