What wonderful yield! I love the variety you have there.

If you don't mind covering your plants a few times, you may be able to keep them going another month or so. When a frost is expected, you can cover the cages with old sheets or even blankets overnight. Just be sure to remove in the morning or the sun may cook your plants. I think the sheets will keep the temps a couple of degrees warmer. One year I even placed a light in there on an extra cool night. It's really a matter of how much you want to fool with them.

Of the ones you've tasted so far, which ones do you like the best?

I don't grow many larger fruited tomatoes for fall crop, but have been impressed with Black Early and Monomakh's Hat. They both managed to set early enough to produce some nice sized ones, many in the 12-16 oz range. Both of these varieties also do well for me (on the early side, and good) when grown as a spring crop.

Medium ones I'm enjoying now include Vodar, Mountain Princess, Black and Brown Boar, Break O'Day, and Yasenichki Yabuchar.

Saladette or cherry types doing well are Bloody Butcher, Belorusian Early, and Sungold. My Black Cherry plants have set plenty, but I have not picked that many ripes yet. Same with Brandysweet Plum.

Still some time in my area for plenty more to ripen based on what I see for the forecasted night temps, but then the days have gotten awfully short.

Awesome! So, did you manage to keep these alive all year or are these all fall plantings? If the later, when did you put them out? Great job.

Suze: Thanks for sharing your varieties. I should be able to get quite a few more ripened before the frost, if not outside then indoors. Only a few of the Rutgers and Eva Purple Ball have ripened so far, but I have a lot of them that are close. Tastewise, I like the Eva Purple Ball the best, but I also liked Stupice and the black cherries. I didn't really care much for the taste of the large red cherries, but I liked their production.

Jerry: I started these from seed and planted them out in the garden in Mid July as six or seven week transplants. To combat the hot temps, I put a very think layer of mulch over them to keep soil temps down and to hold moisture in. Fortunately, we had a few cool days in September and some really warm days in late October. I feel lucky to have gotten as many tomatoes as I have.
One of the biggest things I did differently was to keep the leaves dry. Last year I sprayed them with seaweed and compost tea, which I believe resulted in disease.
