27' Double Wall Oven Choices

Hello, I have searched and reviewed with interest the postings about wall ovens. I'm currently in the market to replace a Jenn Aire Wall Oven + Microwave Oven and am interested in current options. I am looking for the type with the combination convection/microwave on top and convection on the bottom.

I only have 27" of cabinet width to work with, so my options seem to be somewhat limited. Also, I don't have 60" vertical unless I hack cabinetry to push a triple combo Thermador in.

What choices do I have besides the KitchenAid Architect II KEMS378SBL? From all the horror stories I've read posted about poor customer service and the extremely high failure rate of the thermal fuses when using self clean, I'm very reluctant to go that route. But when I turn to another option, there seem to be an awful lot of horror stories on those too - Dacor, Thermador, GE, Wolf, Viking, Electrolux - I've seen scary posts about all of them. But not a pattern of failure as clearly evident as with the KitchenAid self-cleaning problem.

Can anyone post their thoughts on this? Any input into my choices to fit in a 27" space would be greatly appreciated.

You'll have a few options available in those sizes, You'll have the option of a Kenmore, frigidare, ge, JennAir, KitchenAid or Whirlpool. Now the Kenmore and frigidare share the same platform as do the kitchenaid and whirlpool models...Jenn Air and Ge are different models. Now without going to the Designer names (thermador, vicking, ect) you basicly have 4 different designs to choose from. Ignoring the whirlpool and kitchenaid models, the frigidare and Jennair models are the only ones available with convection, the kenmore and ge aren't.....If you have any other questions, feel free to call and ask for ryan at 920-738-8646....

Thanks Ryan, some useful information. Would be interested to see how many people with the latest series KA KEMS378 Series have had problems with the self-clean feature.

We lucked out yesterday on a special-order-customer-returned-good-as-new-still-in-the-box Electrolux 30" wave touch wall oven originally priced at $1999...first marked down to $1799...then $1299...then $990...when we went yesterday it was $750!!! Woo hoo!!! Now designing the new kitchen around this oven and hoping that our store will soon have a 36" rangetop special-order-customer-returned-good-as-new-still-in-the-box as well! :-)

I have the Electrolux double ovens. I had to replace the Frigidaire double ovens in my current kitchen and am not ready for a complete redo, so I had to get ones that fit the cabinet exactly. The Electrolux were the only convection ovens that fit. I like them. They heat up quickly, the racks glide easily, and they seem to heat evenly, although I think the lower oven runs just a little hot. I really like the proofing/warming function. I don't find them particularly noisy and I'm pretty sensitive to sounds. In my previous house I had a single Thermador wall oven and I think its convection was better. However, the electronic control panel went out repeatedly & I spent almost 2k trying to repair it, to no avail. The Thermador repair service was terrible and customer service was worse. (I was in Southern California at the time.). I ended up replacing it with a Kitchen Aid and didn't like the convection at all. When I bake a three-layer cake the layers are pretty even. Roasts come out nicely browned without drying out. I have never used the self clean cycle on my Electrolux ovens because I'm afraid of frying the electronics. They clean up easily by hand. I love the blue interior. :-) When I redo my kitchen, the decision about the oven(s) will most likely come down to Miele & Electrolux. One of the appliance mavens on this forum probably can tell you who actually makes what--I can't keep them straight.

I've had Dacor 27" double ovens for nearly four years - I've been quite satisfied. One of the factors in my choice was a couple friends who were also quite pleased with their Dacor range/ovens.

The Dacor 27" double wall oven, is it a combo convection/microwave on top and convection on the bottom? Which model is it?

Mine is a double oven - no microwave. It's four years old - the model at that time was Epicure - ECS227SBK.

You mentioned not having the 60". How much space do you have? I had the same problem and it took 4ever to pick out something. I ended up with the Viking dbl. I can't remember what the exact measurements were, but when the company came out the measure, they told me that it would fit w/o any changes. I have the "Pro" model. I haven't had any problem with the ovens so far - it's been about 8 months now. I will say though, measure well. Although the company said it would fit my cabinet, it was oh so tight. I can't see it coming back out for repairs or anything without breaking it. But as I said, no trouble so far.

When I asked my sales guys about the CS (because of all the CS complaints here), they told me that they never have a problem with it. Of course I would be going through them though for service. The one thing they told me is that they have had a lot of problems getting parts for other models, but not the Viking, and that's why they recommended that brand.

FYI. Bosch also makes a 27" double-oven in their 500 series. We've been quite happy with ours (2 years old now).
