organic method for getting rid of leaf miners?
Comments (45)It has been established now that users of rotenone have developed Parkinson's Disease at a two hundred and fifty percent greater rate than the general population. I would be pissed if I bought vegetables that may be contaminated with this stuff. Rotenone is destructive to the liver as well as the nervous system in humans, and less than an ounce of it can kill a kid. Speaking of the N word, it's completely naive getting yourself in a situation where you feel you got to use this stuff, I'm with Kimmsr on this one, the purist approach follows a deeper philosophy and understanding of how nature really works. Better planning simply makes the whole job just that more pleasant with the organic approach. The purist approach has worked in our garden extremely well for over five years now, it is simply less work and more effective in every way. Part of the purist approach for me is low nitrogen, high nitrogen even when completely organic causes a lot of infestations becuase it temporarily weakens the plant. I bet everyone who is an advocate of organic pesticides is a high nitrogen advocate. I scarcely bother with nitrogen anymore, focusing on micronutrients and carbon. I've been very surprised how many fewer problems I've had since almost completely backing off on nitrogen fertilization. The university says it's the only major shortage of my soil. Bah humbug, I grow just about everything under the sun, fruit, vegetables, vines, bushes, trees... you name it and I live in Dallas, very tough weather. No infestations, no diseases, it's been a great learning experience defying conventional wisdom but totally fun. When I laid off the high nitrogen, I noticed, no more attacks. The purist approach for me never had anything to do with politics or an existential gaia angst, I'm a right winger, it just clicked in my head one day that organic gardening should be cheaper, easier, and superior in every way. I stopped trying to mimic conventional gardening by substituting an organic product for a synthetic one, I got out of this line of thinking. Proper irrigation helps enormously as well in preventing disease and attacks. Nothing has lead me to change this thinking as the results have whispered in my ear for quite some time, now....See MoreJapanese beetles- best way to get rid of them?
Comments (23)JB are a real problem in the coastal south east. The grubs feed on grass roots. Then the moles feed on the grubs. These 2 activities alone cause majore damage to lawns. Add to that the neighbors dog trying to track down the moles by digging up the yard. Thats 3 forms of damage just in the larval stage. I read about a product several years ago called "Milky Spore" I never used it due to the high cost, at that time I had very little to spend. Milky spore is said to be a biological agent that will cause death to it's off spring and lasts for many years in the soil. Sort of like a parasitic attack I think. The article I read was from my local extension service. I have seen the product on shelves in the stores. The article mentioned this product works best when used community wide. If you have killed off the grubs in your yard thats good. But you can still have problems with the adults flying in from the neighbors yards. So why don't I use it now? well I don't live on the coast and they are not a problem here....See Moreproven method of getting rid of moles
Comments (7)Best method? Plough it all under. Yeah, like that's gonna take root and revolutionize the mole-repelling business. Personally, I have a little Jack Russell terrier. All I see is the bottom half pointing down and the tail wagging, wagging, wagging. Of course, that means I have some holes to fill, something every man dreads. I live next door to an ax murderess. She's this sweet little grandmother, but every spring, armed with her father's ancient wooden handled ax, she can be seen standing in the yard, feet spread wide, waiting, lurking, gleefully anticipating the sweet thunk of the descending ax as she unapologetically sends another mole to wherever they go. The neighbor on the other side of me prefers a pitchfork. Halloween is a blast around here. But really, so many methods exists because some people have problems setting a trap or a poison. Some people are lazy, some people really don't care, and some want...well, they don't know what they want. The "best method" is probably a combination of methods combined with eternal vigilance....See MoreHow to get rid of wool moths?
Comments (2)Most likely "carpet beetles" ate the wool rug. The beetles will bury themselves down in the carpet. You might get rid of the beetles by spraying carpet with "Fuller Brush Moth Spray" and also hanging Fuller Brush moth blocks in closets. If it is carpet beetles, they are now all over your house especially in clothes closets. You would be wise to have the house exterminated or set off bug bombs in all rooms and attic. NO I HAVE NO CONNECTION WITH FULLER BRUSH, I learned the hard way what would work (my MIL's house was heavily infested). The Fuller Brush moth cakes that come in the pink box does not cause your clothes to stink, they air out immediately....See MoreSusan_StM
