Monogram vs. Kitchenaid 48' SxS Refig. vs. Sub-Zero 695
Comments (4)I cant comment as to the monogram, but we have had the KA in for 3 months and have no major complaints. Its been fairly quiet. The water on the door comes out through a filter and it tastes good enough, that I have considered getting rid of the bottled water delivery. We dont use tons of ice, but the icemaker capacity is very large compared to my last kenmore. I paid about 5500 and couldn't justify spending 7000-12000 on the sz even though the one w/the glass door looks amazing. As to the lights looking cheap, I dont know what the lights should look like, but throw a few items into the fridge and I dont think you'll notice at all. My only complaint was on the door shelves for the fridge side. The fronts come up fairly high and items dont come out as easily as I would like, but I have gotten used to it. Good luck....See MoreSubzero/Wolf vs. new GE Monogram
Comments (14)After reading endless posts and reviews here and elsewhere, we went for the Wolf. It is a pain to clean (even though they say it will be easy) - and the burners chipped my porcelain sink. Each grate must weigh 5 lbs., and the grill option grate must weigh 8-10 lbs. Maybe all the stoves are like this. The worst thing about this stove is the oven rack design. They don't glide easily, and are difficult to change out when the oven is cool, deadly when the oven is hot. Their designers missed the simple AND functional concept. Mechanically it is superior - temperature regulation and those sorts of things are engineered well. Flame control is good. It looks like a tank in the kitchen. Won't buy another one. Only two dealers in our area, service has been horrible. The first stove showed up looking like it had been hit by a train - someone had dropped a forklift load on it thinking we wouldn't notice. They also scratched our wood floors delivering it, and the replacement. I am a year plus trying to get a faulty stainless trim piece replaced - and I bought the entire extended warranty. Next stove will be LaCanche or KitchenAid. Even if they won't work as well (might work better, not sure), at least they will be more pleasing to look at every day. The problem with these sorts of things (Ranges, Hoods, HVAC, Refrigerators, Toilets, etc) is that you can't really run the full range of use before you purchase....See MoreSub-Zero vs Miele vs ?
Comments (11)@msklh - The Viking was 10 and had been repaired several times including the freon, which I was told in retrospect is equivalent to open heart surgery on a fridge. Should have replaced it then. I went through an exhaustive search for the replacement & there's a long thread on this forum with lots of details, plus back and forth from some really knowledgeable folk. Here's the link http://ths.gardenweb.com/discussions/2312992/refrigerator-again-perspective-please?n=76 My opening was 24" deep and the Viking was integrated. But I didn't have depth for SZ integrated. Long story short: Finalists were Miele & SZ. But we get frequent power outages here which Miele is built for and SZ is not. That was the deciding factor. Most decide on features like layout etc. Many like their Thermadors and that would have fit. But I didn't care for the interior quality and was unsure about service in my area. It also was nearly as much as Miele and I knew their quality & service. I personally loathe the taste of fridge water so water in the fridge -- apart from ice -- is the last thing I'd ever want. I do miss that slim full width drawer in my Viking as it gave me 3 big drawers vs 2 in the Miele. The little deli drawer is OK. It can be removed but I cram it full. The two big crisper drawers are very deep and hold a ton. But the big difference is the openness of the shelves. What I like best is the door racks which are super sturdy and hold all our drinks. The fridge is quiet (there are some faint compressor noises but my Vike was so noisy we could hear it upstairs), temperature is excellent. Freezer is excellent with 2 shelves I like a lot. Aesthetically, I wasn't mad for the look of the huge SZ grill which I would have had protruding from the cabinets with a standard install. Mieles vent is behind the freezer door on the bottom. That makes the compartment higher than the SZ's. The Miele lighting is outstanding. You can see everything even when the fridge is crowded. It was also about $800 less than the same style SZ here. Nice benefit since I had to pay for install. But either one is a good choice. When I compared them feature to feature it was a tough decision....See MoreInduction dilemma: Wolf vs Monogram vs Miele
Comments (6)I can only speak to the wolf 36” induction. I have had the frameless contemporary now for 2 1/2+ years. I am very pleased with it. It had the best pot recognition (could put a 4” pot on the largest hob and it still recongized) that I tested - Miele was not available and did not even look at Monogram. I very much like the bridging flexibility and it works very well. Each hob has its own control - you can slide it with you finger to adjust or direct select. The lower levels are close together so you get great low to medium heat control. It does not have the auto timers/shut off that you get with the Miele. Not a feature I have missed but that depends on what you cook frequently. That lack of features is reflected in the price point. It is very intuitive to use as my daughters and friends that show up to cook have not had an issue adjusting as they are all used to cooking on gas. I also like that the Small/Medium hobs are all the same size so you can use pots up to 10” on any of those hobs and use a 10”+ size pan on the large hob on the right. I have not felt “cramped” when I have had several pans in use at the same time. Hope this helps!! I had the opportunity to test drive the models in contention at the time and I did eliminate a few due to the interface controls and pot recognition....See Morecpovey
