Wolf 36' 6-burner range oven - how many CFM??
Comments (14)There seems to be a trend on this forum that CFM requirements are strictly related to hood size, height and BTU of the cooking surface. While those are all important factors in the equation the bottom line is that no one can give a totally accurate response with out seeing your home. What is the diameter of your exhaust? How long is the run? How many turns in the run? There is a significant loss of CFM for every 90 degree turn or even a bend in the exhaust. A qualified installer should be able to help you factor your CFM requirement after they inspect your home and determine the requirements of your exhaust vent. Once that is done you can look at the information you have acquired and make an informed decision. We currently have 600 CFM over a smaller range than the OP is considering. I would want to start at 900 CFM for a 36" range and then consider the other factors that will affect the actual CFM before deciding if that is enough. Every home is going to be different even if ranges and hoods were equal....See MoreUrgent! Wolf pro wall hood advice for 36' Wolf 6 burner AG range!
Comments (9)First, a warning -- I have never lived in a house that needed make-up air. Not even close. Double-pane glass makes little sense for us since all the heat goes around the sashes in our Victorian. My experience with MUA is related to commercial systems. What follows is an opinion about the kinds of things that would make me consider MUA. Unless you have a Code requirement for make-up air, you have a fireplace you use when cooking (I seem to remember that you are South Bay?), have a "naturally" vented gas appliance in "connected space" (no always-closed doors between the hood and the appliance), or have a "tight" house (recent, energy-efficient construction, most likely), I would skip MUA. Even if you do need MUA, the difference in the maximum hood flow probably wouldn't significantly influence the the cost of the MUA system, which I would think was primarily labor driven. If not significantly more expensive, and you can run at least an 8" duct (preferably a 10"), I'd go with 900 CFM for two reasons: * You have it when you need it -- guests over, and the kitchen fills with smoke... * A 900 CFM blower at 600 CFM may be noticeably quieter than a 600 CFM blower at 600 CFM The 24" will serve you well. Comments (3)I was between the same two but in 30" and chose the American Range. I found that the fit and finish was better overall, the cleaning seemed easier and the price was lower by $300. That said, I was looking at the older model of the Culinarian which had a smaller oven that didn't fit a full sized baking sheet and had poor igniter placement. The Culinarian was recently updated to make the oven bigger and the igniters have been significantly improved....See MoreBest 36" under cabinet range hood for a Wolf rangetop with 6 burners
Comments (21)The OP wrote: "- We can have a 10" duct, but can not install external blower because there will be at least 3 ninety degree turns for the duct to go through the roof (kitchen is on the 2nd floor and there is another floor sitting above the kitchen)." I must have missed this thread. Just what effect is being assumed here such that the location of the blower is affected by the three 90-degree bends, so long as none are right at the blower. (Hint: Pressure loss capabilities of kitchen hood system blowers are minute factions of an atmosphere. Due to this, pressure losses on the blower intake side and pressure losses on the blower output side have the same effect, particularly when a 10-inch duct is to be used for a sub 1000 CFM requirement.) If one wants [relative] quiet in an open area. the blower should be remote from the hood and a silencer placed in the intermediate ducting. As widely noted here over the past decade or so, rated CFM and actual CFM differ by a significant factor, and one cannot address kitchen ventilation with only hood system parameters. The make-up air system parameters are equally important....See Moredodge59
