Comments (11)Hello again! The antique bed I wrote about is in a univ. town where we own a 2nd home. I finally got over there and studied the framework. The side rails looked too narrow at top to add boards or plywood across them(it could have easily slipped off either way if not nailed in, and the rails were too old and thin to nail into) I could have used L shaped brackets on the underside but that seemed like a lot of work. I found a REALLY cheap box spring at a country furn. store, bought and delivered for $65!; added to the top and it looks great! Not the solution I thought would work, but this bed has a very tall head and footboard so I still have most of the woodwork showing. Thanks for everyone's good ideas!!! PS on another bed in our condo, and on my son's bed in his house, we added the risers ($9 at Walmart/Target) and they are great! Bought queen size dust ruffles for full size beds to make sure they went to the floor. Lots of storage underneath now, especially for a college student!...See MoreNew College = New bed size: Twin to XL
Comments (3)I would just cut the fitted sheet somewhere near the bottom and add a piece 7" wide. 7" to allow for the seam allowances (4 times 5/8") and serge them together. How much deeper does the topper make the mattress than the other way? That would be a pain to adjust for. I got my dd college bedding on clearance; her college started 3 weeks after the big "state" college did and I was lucky to get the jersey bedding for under $4.00. Hope this helps...See MoreNeed fitted sheet for standard depth queen mattress - no luck! He
Comments (7)I have actually taken elastic and sewn it on the corner of the sheets. Put the sheets on and take a length of elastic and safety pins. Put it triangular to the corner and pin one side about six inches from the corner of the sheet. Put the sheet on the bed and pull the other side underneath the mattress and pin it till you get the fit you need. Then go back, reinforcing the areas where you attach the elastic, and sew it to the sheets. I've tried the garters and they have a tendency to release....See MoreProblem with the fit between the headboard and mattress.
Comments (6)Will a bed skirt cover up the brackets? Are you sure you installed it correctly? I have a Queen headboard on a full bed and yes the headboard extends past the width of the bed but the brackets are attached to the metal bed frame and so there is no way for them to show. The additional width on the headboard is balanced out easily once the bed is made with down filled duvet and pillows....See Moregrannabelle
