Comments (5)I came to this site because I wanted to know how easy it was to hear neighbors in apartments, because I wanted to see if there are any no-noes of apartment living. Now I live in an apartment and things are quiet for the most part. I hear peoples dogs, and children playing, but it's normal and I actually enjoy the background noise. Unfortunately I am seeing on forums a constant trend of people complaining about the noise their neighbors are making, and most of these complaints (such as the example from the author) are of noises so trivial. We all chose to live in an apartment building, we already knew we'd be living close to people. So did you all have a fantasy that you wouldn't ever be able to hear them? You blame your neighbors so quickly without relating to them on a human level, try to understand their life as well, and keep in mind that while your getting pissed off at their 'misbehavior' they don't even know that their bothering you in the first place! Your pissed at someone who doesn't realize that their normal lifestyle is keeping you up at night when really you should stop focusing on the little disturbances. Relax a little, let the little noises go, the occasional door slam forgotten, and even for the neighbors who are INTENTLY and ignorantly being disruptive try to withhold from getting hateful and aggressive towards them and just contact your landlord or the police so they can do their job and help make a more positive change....See MoreQuick questions about my first Perennial ever, that I've just planted.
Comments (3)hi Ilovemy trees, I am in 5b too (Central IL) and I have gardened for years and just started having a very little bit of rabbit trouble (They disappeared two good sized petunia plants in full bloom) last summer. But over the winter the voles cleared out almost the whole flower bed along the garage: obedience plants, a mass of probably 4x2 that I have had for 10 years (5 teensy plants remaining), 1/2 of a really nice geranium that was probably at least a foot wide at the bass, several helianthus, a lot of bee balm, who knows what else. Another smaller bed they "took out" a beautiful napeta, completely imploded it, two teensy sprigs sticking out of the mound of soil, surprisingly left alone a 2 foot mass of white iris...too early to tell if they got my Henry Eilers BES, and the Double Trouble sneezeweed. Durn rascals! My brother had excellent luck with mousetraps baited with slightly chewed tootsie rolls, but I have a nosey dog and can't do traps. Guess it'll be annuals in those beds this year. Boo hoo. So much of gardening is trial and error...plus what works this year backfires next year. It seems like I have a run of daisies one year, and then next year it's the bee balm that shines. The voles nibbled the bark off my yew bushes on one side of the house! But they are staying green and healthy looking so far! So don't put all your eggs in one basket!...See MoreSome newbie questions about my first Japanese Maple tree
Comments (12)Great. I didn't know there was a generic Japanese Maple species. I'm in the process of acquiring a couple of more JM's. Is $400 a reasonable price for an about 12 foot tall bloodgood JM in a 32-gallon wood container? That's the biggest Bloodgood at my local nursery. It looks really nice. I wonder why it hasn't been sold as it's been there for a while. The person there told me that I could plant it right away as it's been under full sun for a while. They have unlimited warranty, which would really help in my case as I'm new to this. I also really want a Coral Bark, but the only shady area around my house is along the garage where there is a very big palm tree with a very long root system. So I don't think the soil there would be good enough for a Coral Bark? My only option would be to plan it in full sun. However, I don't think Coral Bark like full sun. Could someone confirm that a Coral Bark would be out of question in my situation?...See Moreangel47630
