Do I paint island/built-in china cabinet/desk same as cabinets?
Comments (9)I love frenchkitty's kitchen. I used her kitchen as one of my inspiration photos for my new kitchen, last year. I did not know what colors she used. (Thanks). First, I totally agree that you should paint the desk the same as the cabinets. Second, any reason you are not going to paint the bricks on the island??? Do they match some other bricks in your home? You could paint them the same as the cabinets if you wanted to downplay them or leave them if you like them. Third, I used SW antique white as our trim color thoughout our home, plus all the kitchen cabinets. The painter did glaze the kitchen cabinets with a brown glaze mix and I just love them. They are a soft cream with the brown antiqued look. We used SW Ivoire for all the walls and now I want to repaint the kitchen walls a deeper tone of gold or caramel. I am little confused. What color are you leaning toward for the china cabinet? I liked Patty Cakes idea of using a color and then perhaps glazing over it. I am not crzay about the idea of brown. Too safe and boring. I do love the French blues or perhaps a soft bluish green. If depends on what other colors you use in your kitchen and home. You actually could also do a bright shade of color with no glaze. It all depends on your taste. But not brown. Sorry....See MoreAnyone use a china hutch/cabinet post remodel?
Comments (26)First, stop with the toxic, stinky stuff! Try something nontoxic like the Citristrip or Soygel. It is SO worth the money!! I'm using it and it's absolutely fun! Particularly for lovely detail work. Your tool is a toothpick! You put it on (for stain) and leave it until the clear finish and/or stain starts to look like BBQ sauce. Then you gently rub it off with a kitchen scrubbie and water. (Mineral spirits liquifies the stain and old finish back into the grain of the wood. Give up that idea! :) They say NOT to use steel wool because Citristrip is water soluable and will cause the steel wool to rust. The plus side is the water soluable part! No chemicals, no toxicity, just beautiful wood. I'm on my 4th antique door today doing just this. I am WAY into watching old finish bubble up and scraping it off into a drywall bucket to bare wood. I swear it's almost too good to be true. As far as rehabbing a finish, Holly-kay, have you seen the incredible work online people are doing with olive oil and vinegar? Yup. Salad dressing. They're using the 0000 steel wool with that and scrubbies. I'm coming to find that horrible, burning chemicals aren't necessary and love it. As far as not liking your first coat finish? Before you put another on, take the 000 steel wool and water and smooth out the coat. You can also use a dry lunch sack. It doesn't leave any scratches to fill. Wipe all the dust off and put your 2nd coat on. I'd actually use the darker wax before your final finish coat. I think that's a good idea, though. You can feather it in where needed. I am so into this it's nuts. I can't wait to build my 2nd credenza!...See MoreOrdering cabinets direct from China (repost)
Comments (80)Mark took responsibility for his minor mistakes and had a good experience. He ended up feeling good and believing he had made a good decision. He had done a lot of research before deciding to work with VOVO. He is pleased with his new kitchen, in the way a balanced individual is pleased. Notably, he didn't say it was the best business decision he had ever made in his life. He would have sounded overly-excitable and discredited himself if he had said that. Why did Mark have a good experience whereas a client who ordered from VOVO after learning of his success here on this page did not? There are many possibilities. He didn't blame VIVO for things that weren't their fault. He took control of his installation and was able to make adjustments as needed when the unexpected occurred. He maintained a positive relationship with VOVO from start to finish. I believe that I can have a good experience with the company, similar to Mark's....See MoreAre china cabinets out of style?
Comments (116)Anthony Johnson So we ended up passing on the china cabinet we found the other day, mainly because as a result of this process we have now selected the type of table and rug we want, and that cabinet wouldn’t quite go with it. We’ll probably start with buying the table, then the rug, then a china cabinet. But whereas we were unconvinced about whether to get a china cabinet at all before posting this question, the discussion here has helped us decide that we’ll definitely get one. The OP wrote this on Dec 19th. This thread has kinda morphed into a life of it's own for everyone's opinion. Dhygarden, pretty china. The Noritake Rhythem is similar to the Noritake Princeton that we got from my MIL. I also have Theodore Haviland NY Pink Spray from my grandmother, and a no-name Christmas china set purchased by my husband for me one Christmas. He has no idea about china, but he picked one that would go with my Christmas tablecloth. Your son and dil, might keep an eye on Ebay for extra pieces. Just read carefully and look at the rating of the seller. They will be much more reasonable than Replacement's....See Moremfrog
