GE gas oven suddenly taking longer to warm up?
Comments (5)Look behind range. Gas valve should be fully open. It is a possibility, albeit quite remote, that valve could have been partially closed when the range was moved back into place. Barring that unlikelihood, your prolonged preheat is either because the burner is 1, not turning on, 2, is turning on but with too small a gas flow, or 3, is being prematurely shut off prior to reaching baking temp. Taken in order, the first condition, failure to ignite within a suitable amount of time, is by far the most common problem, and it is where you should check first. The oven ignitor is a glow plug type that once it reaches the proper temp allows gas to flow to the burner. The sign of this being the cause is a constant glow down by the burner that goes on for many minutes but no gas flows. Turn your oven knob to 350. If you have not heard the gentle whoosh of gas ignition within a couple minutes, it is almost certainly the ignitor causing your problem. If you hear the ignition right away, but the oven does not reach the proper temp, you really need to call a tech. But replacing the ignitor is usually not too hard. Remember, always unplug your range prior to touching electrical components and use caution handling the ignitor. It is the round style on your range (if I checked the part correctly) and they are fragile....See MoreAmerican Range wall oven information
Comments (36)Update Jan 2019... AR customer service refuses to contact me even though I am contacting them every month. At this point, all I need is a repairman. I found a company locally that I hadn't called before. I explained that it was a 650 lb oven and there was no point coming if they didn't have 2 people to lift it out. They said, no problem! When "they" (he...1 person) showed up, he turned it off and on, unscrewed a panel that I had already told him wouldn't help, asked again what was wrong with the 2 ovens, then said he could fix it if I could find another person to help him lift it out. Unbelievable! I reminded him that he was the one I had talked to on the phone and I had told him he needed to bring another person with him...Then he gave me a bill, I paid it, and he left. Nothing was done except my bank balance was left. I finally started calling repair companies in the closest large city near where I live. Most would not drive 1.5 hours even when I offered to pay a trip charge. I finally found a company in December who came out right before Christmas. $170 trip charge plus $240 to listen to me tell them what was wrong even though I had explained in detail in a text to that same person. I told him exactly what was wrong with each oven...I am an expert at AR problems by now....So at least 2 people showed up this time. They turned it on and off and took off the same panel that the last guy did even though I had told them it wouldn't help them. I showed them the parts AR had sent me which turned out to be only parts for the gas oven. Seriously, AR! They knew the electric oven had problems too! So, because they didn't do the research about AR oven issues that I had asked them to do in advance, they couldn't fix it. Why do some repairmen do that? To make more money! He had the parts to fix the gas oven, charged me the trip charge and hourly charges, then did absolutely nothing....$410 less in my bank account... January, 2019, he hadn't called me back. I called the company and spoke to someone else. A week later he called back. They will be coming back next Tuesday. AR said they have had no problems with the ovens....LMAO....then when the repairman kept asking questions, they decided to look into it....oh, my! They DID have a design flaw where the electric broiler would come on too frequently. A sensor needed to be disconnected. Disconnecting it means the oven will take longer to preheat, but it is better than no fix at all. I have the parts that AR has sent me over the years. 3 times they sent the parts but did not send a repairman. Gee! Big help! The newer models have a different sensor that will not work in my oven. They knew about the design flaw! So, $148 per hour and he thinks it will take 3 hours. Trip charge? Not supposed to be one this time, but who knows! $450 more from my bank account, but maybe it will finally be fixed. For a while, at least.... I doubt there is a warranty on the repair work. Next update is next week. Oh, I forgot to mention that these hybrid ovens have had a huge price increase since I purchased mine. They are selling for around $12,000 now! Who is buying them? Why are they buying them? There are many more complaints about AR than just mine....See MoreReview of Electrolux ICON 30" Double Oven Pro Series E30EW85G
Comments (20)Both Wolf and Electrolux have issues with the blue porcelain. And its a really big oops on the Wolf. Electrolux seems to have resolved their issues with blue porcelain as there are not any complaints from recent ovens. Wolf still has ongoing issues, but the repair will now be easier with the bottom as a separate piece. Search blue porcelain in this forum to read about this. Looking at cubic feet or even the depth and width of the oven can be misleading. In looking at oven size, measure the rack to see what the usable space would be and then see how your pans will fit. Look at how the convection fan takes up space in the oven. Some have the fan sticking out into the oven cavity, which might allow for a handle of a pan to hang over a rack edge. Others place a wall across the front of the fan so they can say the back of the oven is flat. Some examples Wolf Electrolux The new Wolf ovens seem to be blue. Different fans! Wolf M series illustration Wolf M series photo Also look at where the racks are and how they can be used. On Elux, at least mine, the rolling rack cannot be put on the lowest position. The regular rack can be placed there. The best feature of the Wolf is the dual fans/elements. I think that is more significant in the 36 inch width though. Comments (122)yes have electric 3 yrs old & propane fueled 7 yrs old in different homes. no issues w doors (except to adapt to left closing). both perform well. electric more bells whistles being newer.. digital and pizza stone. however on advice on tech (we had 1 svc call for faulty thermostat ez repair but they pulled entire panel and replaced), pizza stone carefully removed, stored. this way oven heats and cools faster. note that neither throws excessive heat into space. trade off is a fan running to aid slow deliberate cool down. this might annoy in an open space eat in kitchen. our fan friendly oven is installed in walk in pantry utility room that houses freezer and extra refrig (main kitchen has 30" Leibherr)...See MoreMichelleDT
