I had a big frog of that size for 2-3 years in my little 200 gallon pond. He never bothered the fish, except when he'd take down a bird too big for him to eat and I'd have to fish the bird out of the pond. Trust me, he was eating these birds. I found him with a baby in his mouth once, and one time I found a dead bird I placed it next to the pond. Next morning the bird was back in the water. Only critter that would do that was the froggie. My frog wandered off this spring, my neighbors saw him on their deck. Took pictures and wondered where he came from. Wish he'd wander back. I have another frog in my pond but I very rarely see him, he hides under my bridge so when I do maintenance I see him hop away.

Yep, southern leopard frogs, for sure. Lovely, HIGH jumping, fast moving little guys. I can't remember what their call sounds like, but the above link should help with that. Enjoy these cuties! I wish some of them would find MY pond. Marcia

Call me the mighty cuban tree frog hunter! :o) I saw him hanging out on my yard art and after a few attempts captured him in a cool whip container. He's now chilling out in the freezer. We were able to confirm the big toes. Tomorrow night I'll get a picture and send an email to the University of Florida extension service for mapping. I hope I don't have many more of them.

DO NOT STICK THEM IN THE FREEZER!!!! - thats actually been proven to be a very inhumane and painful way to euthanize any reptile or amphibian and is banned from IUACUC practices as well as by the AZA and other organizations. The animals die very slowly and painfully as their blood crystalizes within their veins and arteries. That practice was popular even a few years ago, but researchers cringe at the thought they had committed countless animals to a very painful form of euthanasia. As for the Orajel - just a large dab on the tip of your finger and rub it on their head. It basically numbs them and stops their brain from functioning, causing them to stop breathing and their heart to stop beating. ~Mike
