Back from my AZ trip!

Monsoon season was late this year so it was pretty tough sledding for snakes the first days and then the monsoon rains flooded us out of some of the best herp spots later on but we still had some cool finds.

Our family did some herping together and some herping as smaller parties and thus two of the best finds I wasn't present for. My brother found a Gila Monster and my mom found a Green Rat Snake. I found a remarkably fiesty Sonoran Mountain Kingsnake that bit me five times as I tried to remove it from a gravel road and hold it for pictures. I suppose being that 11 of the 14 live snakes I saw were venomous, I chose the right one to get bitten by. Mojaves and Dimaondbacks were on the move most nights and we saw a couple of gorgeous blacktail rattlesnakes.

I love that place. I went to Phoenix about five years ago in September thinking it would be cool enought to herp during the day. I was wrong. Every day was in the high 90s low 100s. I managed to find a tiger rattlesnake on the last night with only an hour of herping left. That was the only snake of the trip but was well worth it. I need to get back one day during the monsoons.

We are making a dream trip to Arizona in late summer or early fall, we havn't finalized things yet. WE are going to drive the entire way from TN....stopping to see what we want to see on the way, take a zillion pictures, and probably buy a zillion plants LOL. I really would love to meet some fellow gardeners who live in Arizona before we make the trip. Maybe we can set up a trade. I have quite an extensive sedum collection, which would do well in your area. We havn't pinpointed it yet, but we have it narrowed down to most likely Tuscon. We are herpers..my son works with the reptiles at the local zoo, so his main interest in the trip is to see the local reptiles ( which I love to photograph)..

I have pictures of the plumie, lots of them. She's got blooms and managed to keep them for the trip home. ;) Last night was heavenly having her inside in the living room. Haha! I just love the scent. As for that POS Ford... You're so right, it coulda been a commercial! Gosh, I thought she was going to blow a gasket, literally, She being the MIL. When it broke down the second time, the third? Well... all she could do was laugh and smirk then say that at least we were close to home. *chuckles* Close to home for her maybe, but certainly not for my husband & I as we live 2 1/2hrs away from her. I'll go finish uploading photos and add descriptions, so you can enjoy a good laugh and some beautiful images. ;) ~Tina, enjoying being home very much so!

Wayne(and Keith if you read this), are you guys still going to post a report on your trips. I'd sure like to see the pictures.

Hey Mitchell,

Trip reports are coming. Wayne is on another trip (work--not herp related) so he will probably post his report when he gets back. I only have a few digital photos, so my report will not be as visually appealing, but I will have a gila monster picture and some interesting stuff to share. I'll try to get it posted this week.
