gardener / garter snake

Hello all, got a fast question for this group.

I live in a very rurual / mountain area of NW PA in a national forest....river in back yard and trout stream going thru property.

For last 3 weeks I have a garter snake about 2 ft long hanging around my bushes , next to a crawl space under the house.....he comes out daily to sun himself and feed on ants, spiders etc. It goes into a chipmonk hole ....guess thats his home.... it too goes under the crawl space.

I don't mind it being around.....BUT ....I don't want ten of them or a hundred of them here!!!! Whats my chances of that happening???? How can I tell if it's a he or a she.....you get my drift?

Will it hibernate under my crawl space this winter.....or should I move him outta here before then?

No, I won't harm it or kill it.....no way.

BOB
