Was it eating it or just resting? Sometimes they go off the host plant to rest and molt. Many predators are searching host plants for caterpillars. I saw a book listed for "Butterflies of Trinidad and Tobago", but there are only out of print copies and they are expensive. Do you have a library? Maybe you could check out some field guides there about butterflies. In North American, the caterpillars eat: "Habitat tropical to Transition Zone woodland and Citrus groves. Ranges south to Colombia, Bimini, and Cuba. Hostplants tree and herb Rutaceae: Citrus sinensis, limon, aurantium, grandis (?), Zanthoxylum fagara, americanum, clava-herculis, hirsutum, Ptelea trifoliata, Ruta graveolens, Casimiroa edulis, Dictamnus albus, Amyris elemifera, Choisya; Piperaceae: four spp. of Piper in Cuba. R. Sim observed eggs laid on (and larvae eating) Staphyleaceae: Staphylea trifolia. Records of Nyssa sylvatica (Nyssaceae), Persea borbonia (Lauraceae), and Populus (Salicaceae) seem erroneous. Both P. cresphontes and P. zelicaon(6) fed on Citrus in the San Joaquin Valley, Calif., though cresphontes was a stray there and is now eradicated." This is from "The Butterflies of North America, A Natural History and Field Guide" by Dr. James A. Scott. I also searched on the host plant database. I think you are fantastic, superb, and incredibly talented at this game! I'm going to have to start keeping track of your score. I saw Wagner's picture on page 332 and wondered about it. I should have pursued looking up photos on the web. Instead I got sidetracked on Haploas with the picture on 460. Well, this moth is not going to be as exceptional looking as the Haploas. I'll put some leaf litter in the container and see if it pupates. Thanks again for clearing up another Sandy's Serendipity Garden Mystery. I think that's what I'm going to call my garden as I'm always making serendipitous discoveries. You are an inspiration. Maybe with time, I'll get good at this IDing stuff. Ken, I'm right here :0) Ofcourse it's a 'Sherwood Compact' but if I would tell this in the beginning this topic was done by my answer and that would be a shame ;0) It's a good thing to check our members knowledge once and a while. 'Jakobsen' is much differend: It's needle colour is more darker green because it's a cross with Pinus nigra. Also it's growing habit is more sprerading and it will lose it's inner needles on older wood which give's it a more or less baldy look...

It's been over 5 years since I left the coast of SC, and I still miss the incredible birds! I'd say you have a white heron, a great blue heron, a coot (I think), and a white ibis.
