Another bird came to visit

Woo hoo, another bird came to visit me today. He's smaller than the Great Blue Heron that visited yesterday. I think he's the one that pokes hole trails in the sand near the water. He let me get alot closer than the Great Blue did.

Thanks, I'm glad how it turned out too. About 25 other shots weren't as close, in focus, or with the right pose.

ZZ~ What a cutie and fun find! :) I love it when we start seeing the toads. we put out broken terra cotta pots for them to hide under. :) I have pics of a few of our summer visitors, toads, birds and moths. ;) We are finding the little lizzards this past week or so too. They can be startling.. they darn things look like little scorpions. lol! Sherizona, are you sure it's the lizzards eating the seedlings?? I've never heard of them eating plants, just bugs. JoJo

Definitely a roseate spoonbill. Their color can change from a pale pink to a bright pink depending on the amount of Crustaceans that they consume. I see them down here all the time, and it's amazing how the colors can vary amongst the bird.

Doctorant We many cattle egrets down here. And when they are in breeding plumage, they are just beautiful. Here is a little information on them. Connie Hagar was a noted ornithologist in Aransas County, Texas arriving here in 1935 and died here in 1973. She was very well respected by many ornithologist, including Roger Tory Peterson. In 1952 or 1953 she identified a cattle egret on Mustang Island which was considered the first here in Texas, but it stayed for only a few days. Then by 1956 cattle egret reappeared on Mustang Island. And today, we have them all over south Texas.

Yep. That's the same. The white belly is a dead give away for the Tricolored.

Beautiful pic! I'm so jealous. BTW, my book calls this the "Louisiana heron". My husband's book is more recent and calls it both.

My National Audubon Society Field Guide to North American Birds Eastern Region states that the Tricolored Heron Egretta tricolor was formerly called the "Louisiana Heron". I have the 1995 edition.

And the pictures of wonderful. I see them down here a lot, and I just love them.
