This one had brown striped tail feathers, I thought that the adults had red tails but I know very little about red tailed hawks so I thought I would ask, thanks! Oh, also, what's that whistling noise that it is making? There is a redtailed hawk couple that lives in my area, I used To see them Together all the time, now they seem to be hanging out solo mostly, I wondered if this one might be one of their "kids" from this year or year before, this one's plumage looks a lot darker than the male and female I usually see in the area.

In my family, in the Pacific Northwest of the United States the Thanksgiving meal always included: A big plate of crudites with onion dip. a crystal platter with black olives, enough for every child to slide a big black olive over each of her fingers. a big roast Turkey, when Grandma was alive it would be a 24 pound bird. with stuffing made with toasted bread cubes, onions, celery and sage and other herbs and chicken broth. gravy made with giblets. Mashed white potatoes made with butter and cream. Sweet potato sliced and baked with lots of butter and with small marshmallows baked on top. Cranberry sauce. One puts this on the turkey. I saw a movie set in England where someone very kindly tried to reproduce a Thanksgiving meal for his American wife and he served raspberry jam with the turkey. a heartfelt sentiment which is more important than food. If I were in England and couldn't find cranberries I'd look for lingonbery jam, for they are a bit closer to cranberries in taste, though the berries are smaller. Brussels Sprouts Rolls or biscuits and butter. and for dessert pumpkin pie with whipped cream on top. Now that I've lived in California for 30 years I've seen many Thanksgivings that had all of the above foods but also had in addition to pumpkin pie, a very rich pie made of pecans. Most of , no- all of the African Americans I've known always have sweet potato pie in lieu of pumpkin pie and in my opinion it is a far superior pie. Nowadays we usually start with a big salad often a Caesar salad as it is simple and the rest of the food is so rich. I love Thanksgiving, it is such a heartwarming holiday with none of the commercial stress of Christmas when one is rushing around trying to find a parking space and then the right gift for every one. Although it takes a large effort to cook a large Thanksgiving meal. I often feel closer to God on Thanksgiving for God is Love, and love is a familiar feeling on that day along with gratitude. Most Thanksgivings I've been at have always had one or two persons who were invited at the last minute when someone found out they had no family locally to go to . Well, the GC told me he could get me in my house by Thanksgiving this year (he started last April), but I didn't quite expect this to happen, and it didn't. I figure I should be in by March... I'd also hoped to order a heirloom turkey (small) through Whole Foods -- more flavor and better dark to white meat ratio, and it would only be a once a year at the very most splurge. Then I broke the leg, and decided manhandling a turkey in and out of the oven was going to be a bad idea, even if it were small. BUT I am thankful that my house IS coming along, and that me and GC still get along, and that I'll be retiring sometime the first half of 2016, and that I now have my first ever great-nephew - who, unfortunately lives in Florida so I haven't seen him in person yet -- I probably won't meet him until early-mid-spring now. But I am grateful he's around and he looks a lot like my brother! I'm thankful for the wonderful people who've been helping me and dropping off Asian (and other) dishes, and taking me to the doctors when I need to go, and dealing with kitty litter... I was able to make myself an excellent braised turkey thigh recipe, and I stuffed some delicate squash with a sweet potato / cranberry / apple mixture -- and I didn't have to decline any desserts because I didn't make any! Hello everyone! Im still here! I've been busy the past couple of days and forgot to check this post. Karen, the saucer does not come off. It's attached to the pot. The pot is heavy glazed ceramic and it does have a drainage hole. Im always super careful to allow all my plants to drain thoroughly in the sink before putting them back. Also the soil is not hard. I think its just the wrong soil in the wrong pot. This sucker stays moist for weeks. So tomorrow is the day! My husband and I are going to get a new pot and soil, and begin the repotting process. I dont look forward to it... i think we'll lose some of those big woody branches. Id prefer to keep them, as I love the old look of the plant. :) We already have a ton of "cuttings" from the branches that have previously fallen off. I took a look at the soil I have, its a cactus/succulent mix. It has peat, sand, perlite, and limestone. Im thinking of grabbing either orchid bark or more perlite to mix in. *thinking and rereading your suggestions..*
