Hawk not gone!! Better Pictures Look!! LOOK!!

Hey everyone the hawk is not gone. I got four new pictures with links. They are a little blurry but you can still see the colors and shape. You let me know what you guys think it is.

I live in College Park, MD. Which is a basically a college city in Prince Georges County, MD. Lots of buildings and lots of people.

Counter or Bar Height, Which Will Look Better?

We had the same question in two areas of our kitchen reno. Bar or counterheight for both the peninsula AND when I decided to enlarge the pass through window. We chose counter height for both, and and so happy that we did. Here's the peninsula: and like Nathan mentioned -- we actually have alot of newpaper reading and homework being accomplished and internet surfing going on the non-kitchen side of the peninsula -- Oh! and card playing: with this set-up we can get 3 people playing cards here, too! My daughter likes to make cool decorated cupcakes for her friends, and this large area allows her to spread out and make an even bigger mess . . . Oh, I mean be creative. This was formerly a wall that we took down between the kitchen and DR. When I have a buffet, I take the stools and move them to the pass-through overhang -- shown here. This was the passthru window that had a "bump-up" -- we flattened and enlarged it. I like the counter height all through out the kitchen. And I apologize to people who may be sick and tired of seeing pictures of my kitchen. But so many helped me, I just want to help people who had THE SAME questions I had when I was planning!

I would avoid surgery too, only a last resort. I have to say though, that if anyone ever needs hip replacement, go for it before it gets unbearable. I didn't think my first hip replacement recovery was a bad as I expected, but 2 years later when I needed the 2nd hip replaced, I still hesitated. Methods changed in just the 2 years though, it was a breeze. In a week I could walk without a cane, no pain, just unbelievable. I had to do 6 weeks of therapy, but I don't know why, I couldn't tell that it helped at all. The doctor wanted me to get knee replacement several years ago, but I'm putting that off. My knees sound horrendous if I try to do your lunges, but are pretty pain free otherwise. I've heard knee replacement is really tough. I'm getting antsy to get out & do something with the weeds I'm already seeing. Weather is supposed to be in the 50s & even 65 one day. Of course, rain is predicted those days, but I'm hoping I might get rid of a few weeds when they aren't lookin'

I think I would turn the desk so when you work at it you face out..even if that is not overly functional for YOUR dh it would look more comfortable to a buyer. Not thinking it will be used as an "office" for the new people, anyway.

Should onion transplants look worse before they look better?

Green onions don't usually need as much space as you have given them in the picture. Also, they are great for containers, in case that you need that space for other things. Besides that, what you are seeing is typical of onion transplants. Depending on how many you have planted, if you pick the leaves in batches, then you should have a steady supply of fresh green onion. Eg, pick group A this week. Next week or two, pick group B. and then maybe a group C or D in there if you have that many. That way, by staggering when you pick leaves, the others will continue growing to larger sizes for you before you need them. I have also done it to where I cherry-pick some leaves from a particular onion, leaving the smaller leaves to continue growing and later get harvested.

The pictures are rather blurry. If I had to guess I would say a red tail hawk. You should probably check some bird id sites to see if you can't find a picture of a hawk that looks like yours. A good place to start is the Patuxent Wildlife Research Center. The URL is below. The Patuxent Wildlife Research Center is actually real close to where you are, its also in Prince Georges County, in the Greenbelt/Laurel area.

Looks like a Red Tailed Hawk to me. I can see a distinctive belly band.
Note that only adult Red tailed hawks have a red tail.

Are you sure this hawk is not adult size? His wing span now is at least 3.5-4' wide, that to me means adult. All the guides I have read about raptors since first seeing this Hawk was that the young ones are hard to tell apart but the adults of each species have distince characteristics that help identify them. From seeing him in my tree right in front of my face, I thought my god, he comes up above my knee cap, clearly a tall hawk which is what brought me to the goshawk, my neighbor thinks that it is a goshawk as well, but I am going to have to get a better picture for you guys to help me positively identify him. I do like that all of you know alot about raptors, that is really awesome. I will post more pictures soon. Thank you guys!

It's not a Goshawk, and that is for sure.

Young birds, including hawks, are the same size as the parents when they leave the nest or fledge. Many young birds do have different feather colors and patterns than adult birds. A first year red-tailed hawk does not yet have a red tail. There is wide variation in the color pattern of red-tailed hawks so it is often hard to tell them apart from other buteos.

Sure looks like a Red-tailed Hawk to me. That belly band is quite distinctive.

My guess would also be a red tail judging by the shape. Hawks of the same species come in a wild range of color patterns.I can only bring up your first picture. The head is hard to make out.
