Kansas roadcruising report....

Here are my roadhunting totals from the past several nights in Kansas. We have had several severe thunderstorms passing through that have changed the barometric pressure. This always seems the spark a snake movement. These totals are from the past five nights:

13 Osage Copperheads (3 DOR)

2 Timber Rattlesnakes (1 huge adult female DOR!!!bummer!)

2 Black Ratsnakes

3 Prairie Kingsnakes (1 DOR)

2 Speckled Kingsnakes (1 DOR)

1 Red-sided Garter Snake

4 Prairie Ringneck Snakes

2 Eastern Yellow-belly Racers

1 Western Slender Glass Lizard (DOR)

I have been fortunate to have a car to use that doesn't get 9-11 miles to the gallon, so I have been hitting the pavement from 7:30 until about 10:30. Has anyone else noticed abnormal snake movements this past week? It is June, which is always the best roadcruising month in the midwest, but the totals are still high. I have really been focusing my time in an area where I think I will see a Red Milk Snake crossing.

Gary- I really think that this would be a great time for you to try roadcruising for Cemophora, if you haven't already.
