Should I be concerned about this snake

I live in south Ga and we have a snake in our fenced in small front yard.I've seen it 4 four times in a week in the same place.It lays by our sidewalk leading to my steps/porch.I don't have a picture but it looks like the black racer I saw in a posting on here.Its dull black,thick body and its agressive.While I don't know thats what it is it looked like that photo.My concern is I have two basset hounds,inside dogs and I know they will want to investigate.I've been going out to check to see if its out,I assume it lives under the steps.This morning it was out and I pulled out a chair on the porch to sit and watch it,the snake jumped at me.I'm at least 3 ft over the snake as its on the ground and I'm on the porch.I decided to go in after that but turned around to go look once again at it and its coming up the steps now.Is it likely to bite my dogs because if they ever come in contact with it they are going to want to check it out?Do you think it will move on from here at some point?And if we are out front before it is will it most likely not come out?Also while I don't wish to harm it if I spray it with the water hose and it leaves the yard is it likely to come back?Thanks for any advise

Racers are aggressive by nature but they are not venomous. If a dog investigates, the snake would most likely flee. Racers are wary and usually take off at the hint of human (or animal) presence. The snake you see is warming up on the sidewalk.

A spray with the hose would probably not stop the snake from returning. To reiterate, racers are harmless and you and your dogs are safe.

yea I agree most snakes are anti-human they are as scared of us as we are them.....eventually it'll leave no harm no foul probably eating nasty bugs

I am using an organic potting mix that was stored outside. It starts out looking like a residue and then it clumps up. It rubs off fairly easily and it feels granular...like sand or salt. I cleaned up all the affected plants with a baking soda solution and that seems to have stopped it except for the one I moved outside and the white substance came back. I also noticed the tips of some leaves turning soft and browning. Is this botrytis?

Smivies, I am not looking for excuses to have this tree removed. It's the other tree (that is close to my house and in the middle of my deck - other thread--Help me get city's approval ) that I am seeking to have removed. I am only concerned about this particular branch----as to whether it should be removed or not in order to keep the tree healthy. Amazing that you had a similar experience Nicholsworth! What a mess! Thanks Beng for having another look. (The roof top is somewhat higher and may give another camera angle to view, but my husband is not camera savvy.) When, and if, I am able to get the city's approval to remove the OTHER sugar maple, it will be a day with mixed feelings. I will remove the tree, but I will definitely have some sadness for the end of the tree's life and the end of my 35 year relationship with the tree.

Hi, About a month a ago I re-potted a small Sequoia cultivar. After a few weeks I noticed some white specs near the bottom of the trunk. Is this some form of fungus or rot and should I be concerned? It has since not been spreading but is also not going away. Im new to growing anything in containers but have been reading a lot on this forum over past months. I placed the tree in the 5-1-1 mix and have only been watering it once a week. I tilt the container to drain extra water after each watering. Thanks!

From what I am reading, you were lucky enough to secure a contract on an unusually large home in a hot market. In circumstances like that, being in the right place at the right time gave you the opportunity to buy a desirable home. If you choose to back out, you will spend more money trying to secure alternative housing, fees and charges duplicated on the next house you find and likely pay a higher price for the replacement. If you back out now, you are guaranteed to lose money, but if you close, you have a fairly good chance that you haven't bought a problem house. Most issues found in a home inspection are not deal breakers, especially if the property was built in the past few decades. Old houses are more likely to have expensive problems but if this is a newer home, serious issues aren't as likely. In my area, most sales are as-is with an inspection clause which allows the buyer walk away if there are substantial defects found. In common practice, buyers request certain items to be fixed and sellers often fix issues to avoid losing the sale. However in a hot market, sellers are likely to refuse to fix issues unless lenders refuse to finance the purchase.
