Gopher Frogs

chubbles

I've been seeing a few around now that the rains have returned to Central Florida. Does anyone know how, exactly, they go about surviving the dry/drought times? I know they live in gopher tortoise burrows, but do they bury themselves in the den like a spadefoot toad does? or do they just sit down there in a mucus pouch? It has been so hot and so dry here this year, it just amazes me that a Rana can do it without a permanent water source.

Thanks
