Beautiful bird!! What a thrill to get to see the pair together. I came home today to find a mess by my driveway a mockingbird had made a nest & had at least 1 tiny baby & crow got the baby to the ground (dead)& mom/dad I don't know as lot of feathers all over, hope it wasn't my favorite 1 & hope it's is still alive. It must be a little ragged if it is. He?(I think males are only ones that sing) often sat just a few feet from me when I weeded & sang or just sat there.Haven't weeded for over a month so it's a mess out there, hope to get into better routine soon.Day by day for now. Mockingbird lets me know if birdbath is about empty by whizzing over my head, hummers do that too, if their feeder is empty. Jules, send some of those beauties my way, I would love to see them in my yard. I have seen a regular oriole drinking from my hummer feeder.Jan

The male pine grosbeaks are such beauties, aren't they? Lately I've noticed that the 4 males visiting my yard seem brighter, or redder. They must be getting geared up for a date and a bit of nookie! I had no idea that grouse went up into the trees. But I guess it makes sense - when everything on the ground is so snow covered, what else would they eat. We had nuthatches early in the winter - white breasted here at home and red breasted at work - but I haven't seen them since. DH saw an owl just outside of town a yesterday and from his description it sounds like a Great Grey. I want to go hunt him down, but it's been snowing pretty good since I got off work yesterday. Oh there is tons of food for them. They climb right up to the feeders and I have a squirrel feeder they go into. Last year I had six. I don't think the babies have showed up yet.I think an Armadillo would be a nice treat or even a racoon. Haven't got either and I know most people do not like racoons. When the Saskatoons are ripe these little guys climb all over the bushes to get them

We have had tons of possims through the years. We give them a ride to the 30ac bird sanctuary across the other side of a creek so they won't come back. I have one larking, she thinks she lives here. A few weeks ago my dogs chased her through the yard and the next day I discovered a baby in a bush which must have fallen off during the chase. I scooped the baby and put it out in a sideyard outside of backyard fence so dogs wouldn't get him. The next morning he was back in the backyard. He was squeaking while in the bush so his mother would find him. I left him alone and the next day he was gone. Mother is showing up on my garage roof. They're cute but such a nascence I'll save my armadillo, baby hawk and skunk stories for another time. Or the one when a rabbit was sitting next to an armadillo on my corner...LOL
