Help identify this snake

Hello! We recently found this snake underneath our porch. Any idea what kind if snake it is?

Racer (Coluber constrictor). What type of racer (Black Racer, Blue Racer, Yellow-bellied Racer, etc). depends on where you are.

It is a completely harmless snake and this one was a baby.

The pictures I've seen of the fragrans Massangeana don't match up. The trunk of this tree is maybe three inches and the leaves are about 36 inches coming up from the trunk, like a snake plant grows straight up.

True, it may be a rat snake, but... do rat snakes rattle the end of their tails like a rattler would? That's what really threw me (after I thought about it). I mean... do ALL snakes do that when aggrivated? O.o?

It's not a copperhead. Pit vipers (all poisonous snakes in the US but the coral snake) have slitted pupils like a cats. Yours one definitely has round pupils. And you're right that it's not shaped correctly to be a copperhead. Just think of all the crickets that little beauty was eating in your garage! It WAS a completely harmless baby Racer, which looks no more like a venomous snake than a Ford Escort looks like a Peterbuilt semi tractor trailer rig. I do not understand the mentality of killing an animal and THEN trying to find out if it was dangerous or not. That's like beating a puppy you find in your yard to death with a baseball bat and then posting pictures of its battered and mangled little body and asking, "what breed of puppy was this? Do you think it could have had rabies?" It is very easy, if you live in the US, to learn how to distinguish between venomous and non-venomous snakes, and even with venomous snakes, it is not necessary to kill them when there are tools for safely capturing and removing them.

I am a devoted snake lover and hate to see dead snakes posted like this, but I always consider the bigger picture and benefit of responding positively.

Amylynn had a serious concern if the snake was dangerous or not. If she didn't, she wouldn't have posted it here.
Remember, the real "snake haters" of the world will kill the snake and not really care if was venomous or not because "the only good snake is a dead snake". They don't post questions. The people posting questions are trying to gain information so they can make more informed decisions in the future.

Criticizing people here for seeking information may be counterproductive. Hopefully, Amylynn will NOT kill the next racer she finds because of the help she gained here. So even though this racer died, it may have died for a cause.

Sorry, I do not agree. You don't kill first and ask second. Most of the snakes we encounter in the US are harmless and beneficial. Please don't kill snakes because they are snakes. Your ignorance is showing. Try to educate yourself before you kill a beneficial, harmless, defenseless being because of your misguided and out-dated phobia.
