What is my bug?

I was at my grandparents and found this bug on her pomegranate tree thing. It looks like a mouse or something. I have no idea what it is, but I know that it lives out of the water, has a soft fur, eats pomegranate leaves that are still on the tree, and has like a little black mouth at the end of it.

Goin' with Southern Flannel Moth caterpillar(Megalopyge opercularis). You definitely don't want to handle these guys.

I have to say that I am shocked with the blue sticky traps! Now, I don't think they will be completely controlling the problem when it is really bad, but the 1 trap I hung is covered in thrips! I just love going out to my roses and seeing all the dead thrips on it! Next year I will put out more, I just didn't find them in time this year to put them out when the thrips were the worst. I'm also going to order minute pirate bugs next year. I am worried that the traps will catch good guys too since they are so incredibly sticky, but I guess I will just have to take that chance.

Because they're scavengers, perhaps you either need to harvest a tad earlier or look for the culprit which started to make the holes -- the pill/sowbugs are members of the Cleanup Crew.

Also called the Puss caterpillar. Do NOT NOT NOT let those little hidden spines come into contact with the skin. They can pierce clothing, too.

The sting of these little guys is enough to send big strong landscapers to the emergency room.

I was thinking that, too, until I got to your pictures of you handling them, with no apparent discomfort. So, either you are immune to them somehow, or it is something different, despite looking exactly like a Puss Moth caterpillar. Either way, I'm confused.

The spines on these guys are located in the ridge along the top.

I wouldn't recommend it, but at least you know where those spines are located!
