NM Report...

The trip sucked.

I went to herp...The family part was supposed to be secondary, but given my aunt's pregnacy and the need for me to baby sit my 10,000 cousins, I got screwed out of herping as much as I had wanted to.

I did get out for a hike now and then as well as a few night of cruising...So here is the list...

Desert Massasauga (Sistrurus catenatus edwardsi)...2 (DOR, one was amazing looking)

Prairie Rattlesnake (Crotalus viridis viridis)...2 (1 DOR, 1 AOR)

Western Coachwip (Masticophis flagellum)...4 (DOR !)

Wandering Garter Snake (Thamnophis elegans)....1 (AOR)

The various lizards I found while roaming the area...

Lesser Earless Lizard (Holbrookia maculata)

Side-blotched Lizard (Uta stanburiana)

Northern Sagebrush Lizard (Sceloporus graciosus)

Northern Tree Lizard (Urosaurus ornatus)

And the find of the trip (for me) as well as the only lifer...

Many-lined Skink (Eumeces multivirgatus epipleurotus or Plestiodon)

So there it is. The worst part of the trip was that I sat in the house and watched as rain poured down and soaked the area. This has been one of the wettest years that any of my relatives (who are lifelong residents of NM) have seen. My entire focus of this trip was the New Mexico Milk Snake, and conditions were perfect! I had the locality...the weather conditions...Everything I needed...But family duties called. Bummer!
