Okay, now that I'm in my new place, I'm startin' to get worried about spiders. This one was on the window glass. :(

That is most definitely a Black Widow spider, the red hourglass is a dead giveaway. Nasty little buggers and very poisonous. Kill it quick.

don't need any spiders, but do you have anything else to trade? I have wandering jew, two types of philendendron, two types of sanseveria, stripes and plain green, also chicks and hens and gound cover. Oh, I also have snap dragons in bloom to trade.

Shenanigans_91, You have a 'Bonnie' Spider Plant, which is essentially the curly version to a regular spider plant (curly leaves). The "stems" that the babies grow on are not straight like the regular spider plants, so don't worry. I have an all green 'Bonnie' and mine are looping all over the place, I think but only a couple are straight. Planto

I have them in my garden too, and really enjoy them. They are very active at this time of year, and I walk carefully down narrow paths because they spin those enormous webs across them, just at head level. I agree with rhizo -- as far as I know, they are harmful only to the bugs they trap in their webs. The webs are beautiful in the early morning after a heavy fall dew, when the sun catches the droplets of water and makes a lacy pattern out of the web. Don't worry, but look where you're going unless you want a spider riding on your hat.

Hello spider and camera people. That pretty little Phidippus regius (sp?) looks just like the jumping spiders that I keep in my kitchen/dining rooms to eat flies at night. I've been doing it for years. They are such wonderful fly eliminators! I'd probably keep them even if I didn't have flies. But it's always good to have a back-up story ready for the ones who freak at the sight of "SPIDER!!!". :)

So ya'll spider lovers wouldn't mind. I didn't want to post that I squished it already. Plenty more other kinds to follow soon.

The good thing about BWS is that their webs are so easy to ID, you don't really have to see her to know she's there. We had an outbreak of them in the garage last year. I just told my kids if they saw a web that wasn't organized in any way, just strings and strings and strings and seemed abnormally sticky that it was a BWS web. I think by the time we'd erradicated them all, our count was at 14. Now, every spring we bug bomb the garage.
