I am also thinking of just using the lattice and railing of my deck to tie them up. The only problem I have with this is my two young daughters getting into them when they are on the deck. But it would not require any new material to purchase and set up. Plus I wouldn't have to construct anything even though I love to build things. Since this close planting is really just an experiment for me so that I can plant many different varieties this year, I would prefer to buy or build something I may not use in the future. Plant vampire! That is Dodder (love vine, strangle weed, devils guts) - evil stuff!!! Definitely commit yourself to destroying evey bit you can before it reseeds. I bought a load of topsoil contaminated with it about five years ago, I haven't seen it in three years now. Best of luck!

Yeah there are many ways to ripen green tomatoes but even more recipes for using them as green. So are you looking for things that can be canned or frozen for long term storage or just ways to use them in cooking? With cooking recipes you can use them in in the same amounts in any recipe where you would normally use ripe tomatoes. Just gives a different taste to the dish. Also great in salads, on the grill, pizza, diced as an ingredient in meatloaf, ever had green marinara sauce on pasts? Green tomato enchilada sauce, green tomato salsa, mixed with hot peppers for hot sauce, even green tomato ketchup is quite popular.
